Showcase CS Cart site

Hey all

Look what we’ve just done with CS-Cart. http://www.sportsmanswarehouse.co.za/. Even if I do say so myself, it is a fantastic site and CS-Cart has been brilliant.

They are one of the biggest Sports retailers in South Africa. We built a number of custom components for this site including the home page banner rotator, giving admin the ability to manage the footer text for each part of the website and building a custom event component.

I Like it…whats the “gift cart” banner ad do?

John

when purchasing a gift card, you enter a value in our local currency (Rand).

You then get taken to the normal checkout process. On successful purchase, it sends you a voucher number to your mobile phone via SMS that you can redeem at any store (to the value of the amount you bought)

It opens OK when I click.

Love the site - really professional looking and very clean and easy to navigate. The only suggestion I have is to make your font a shade darker as I feel it is a bit pale and difficult to read and maybe a size bigger on your general pages (i.e. your About Us page and the other general pages). You could make the font there the same as in your product descriptions.

Otherwise … well done. It’s fantastic.

thanks for the suggestions

CS-Cart has been incredible. It’s got a well thought out add on architecture and the general functionality is great. It was a great decision to go with CS Cart for this site (as opposed to overhyped systems such as Magento).

Thanks CS team!

You havent answered my PM!

Wonderful site - congratulations!!

Can I ask what kind of hosting you are using?

I’m in Australia and it’s loading quite slowly for me, but just about all cs-cart sites that are not hosted in Australia tend to load very slowly on my computer.

Just curious.

Thanks

Cathy

Hi Cathy

We tend to host local sites in the local country. I.e. being a South African site, it’s hosted on a server in South Africa. It is a dedicated server (not shared hosting) so it should be very quick. I would say if you’re building a site for Australians, host in Australia.

Nice site indeed, however, I do not agree with the footer completely. There are some parts of it that don’t go with the rest of the design. I am saying that the footer has some design elements that do not seem to be a repeat of the main design and they stand out as being a bit too alien on that page.

took a minute and was still waiting for it to load…i’m in the uk…slowwwwwwwwww

cleared my cache and tried again… even worse times…

once loaded, all pages were still to long to wait. more than a minute for the few pages i tried.

from my point of view i would say get your loading times down.

It might have been a slow Internet day.

I also thought some of your images should be gif rather than jpeg. Jpeg for photos and gif for text/logos. This would reduce the page size and might help.

The issue could be that the server is in SA and the connection between the UK and SA is poor to say the least. However, I do agree. The pages are very image heavy and we should look at compressing. CS cart is a bit slow, but we will try speed things up by minifying JS/CSS, using mod_deflate and a few other tricks. Main issue is the number of images and the inherent speed of CS Cart.

I really like the design. Nice site.

The only slow-loading part for me is the background images for the “hover” status of link elements. It’s only a minor thing though.

This sounded great, but seems the Gift Card functionality has been removed. Shame, how did you do it? Awesome looking site, even 2+ years later it hasn't aged a bit.
