Google Images

Hi

I have a few question im hoping someone can help me with. I have just noticed that none of my pictures show up in google images although google has indexed over 50 of my pages.

After searching the forums it seems to be because the images folder is disallowed in the robot.txt. Is there are reason for this? Can google see all images in the folder if it was allowed or only images on my site. Also is it a simple case of deleting this line from the robot.txt or do I need to make other changes to allow google to index my images.

It seems to limit alot of potential website traffic by disallowing images. Last question will adding keywords to the alternative text under images help?

Thanks for the help.

Craig

remove /images/ from robots.txt

Hi

thanks for the help. I have removed the line in the robot.txt but Google still doesnt seem to be indexing any of my images? Do I have to do anything else? Thanks for the help.

Just wait.

I suggest you signup for google webmaster tools and check the crawl-ability of your website

I had the same problem and was reading in Google’s webmaster forums about it and came across what fixed it for me. I added the entry below to my robots.txt file. I know what people say about the “Allow” entry but it worked. I left the “Disallow” entry for all the other bots.

User-agent: Googlebot-Image

Allow: /images/

Is this option definitely working? I’m wondering because in my store all the product images aren’t displayed in the google index.

Why do you want images indexed when they do not relate to any products that generate revenue? If your images are such that they have their own unique value then getting them on Google Images will help others grab them from your server (or reference your server letting you serve their imagery).

Not sure I understand the point… Can you explain? If Google wanted the images that are related to your products then they would simply utilize the ‘src’ attribute in the tag.

tbimseth,

I would also like Google to index my images. Images in my current non-cs cart site are indexed. Most of my hits from Google are do to image searches. The images are my products. I am not getting images indexed on my cs-cart, I believe, is due to the alt tag and or title tags not having any content. Skin images do, but not the products.

width=“200” alt=“” title=“” border=“0” />. The images can’t be classified if there is no description of the image.

Not sure why. I do have
