Huge mistake selecting CS-Cart

I have to say I am very sorry I have changed my shop over to CS-Cart. Every other day I get these types of e-mails:

">> I was trying to buy a martini glass from you folks but ended up in a

neater

world far, far, away from where I wanted to go so…I bailed out and

dumped

you.

Please let me know if you can simplify your www, I¹d love to buy

something

from you but, make my life easy not more complicated.

Kenn"

I NEVER used to receive these E-mails on Prestashop, so it is very telling. My conversions are down about 55% and user confusion seems to be up 100%. Not good folks, not good…Has anyone that has switched to CS-Cart from another cart actually had improved sales?? I made my CS-Cart site look exactly like my prestashop site…just the checkout process seems so convoluted that my customers are bailing.

I made a test order and all went fine. Where is the problem which your customers do have?

I don’t know. I really don’t. I just get more complaints and less orders since the switchover. Very disheartening because I put a lot of work into it.

I see… I hope we, on the CSC forum, will do everything to help you and solve the issues.

Do you have a backup of your Presta shop? Maybe we could make a test installation and compare it with your currently CS-Cart.

I saved it under folder that says cscart:

Can you switch it on?

If you go to that link, it should work. That is the prestashop version of my site…The biggest difference I notice is speed of the carts but I am not sure if that would really cause customers to stop buying. The checkout process is also faster. CS-Cart has significant lag in between steps. Every CS-cart shop site I’ve visited does in comparison.

Ask some of these complaining customers what it is that they find confusing. If they are complaining then they must be able to provide some insight into what they find difficult to comprehend.

Just a quick observation, however, I notice that you are attempting to display a shipping cost calculator on your individual product pages, and it is displaying an error message when attempting to calculate “Your cart is empty. Shipping costs cannot be estimated.”

This is not necessarily enough to loose a sale, but, enough of these little things can lead up to a customer getting frustrated enough to send an email like the one above.

Personally, I only prefer to display a shipping calculator for the entire cart contents as it is not normally accurate on a per item basis anyways.

I would suggest you ask some people, friends, family, CS-Cart forums users, etc to do some usability testing on your site to determine what areas need improved or simplified.

It’s in maintenance mode.

Sorry forgot about that. Switched on…

Ok, I checked your Prestashop and made a test order. I have to say the checkout process is much more complicated as the CS-Cart one. I needed ~10 steps to achieve the PayPal site. I can’t see the problem there, because CS-Cart checkout is much easier…

This is what I was thinking when I made the switch. I believed the CS-cart process was easier as well but it is not performing as well as the other cart. My main cause of concern is the e-mails and feedback I am receiving that I did not get before. The customer is always right unfortunately…

I haven’t posted in awhile…but an observation I made

those java onmouseover popups on the product pages are slowing your site down (you do not have that on your old presta shop)

personally, i don’t like that, but it is hard to compare results with a huge variable like that in the mix…

nice products btw

Glad you mentioned this, as I personally find the mouseover pop-ups quite annoying anyways, just from a usability standpont!

Thanks for the feedback. I removed them but not sure this is why my customers are suddenly abandoning carts like they are now since the switchover. My shop used to consistently receive 75-100 orders a day, now 25-40. Fairly significant drop. I guess I am just frustrated because I actually expected MORE conversions with the features CS-Cart offers. I am always a believer in “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” and I didn’t follow my own mantra. LOL

Do you use Google Analytics or another statistic program? Did you check and compare the visits on your site with the previous cart? If you get less visitors, that will be a SEO problem with your old URL’s.

Not something you don’t already know, however, do not for one second overlook the current economy! Best way to put it is extremely “Unpredictable”…end of story!

are you redirecting customers to the new site from the old indexed links?

(301 htaccess can do this)

are the unique hits (to the indexed pages) comparable to the old site?

as mentioned, google analytics can help answer that.

added////your site is twice as fast without those popups!
