Compare Prestashop Vs CS-Cart

It really depends on what you want to acheive from your store.

I’m sure the CS-Cart would be the right ecommerce solution for you, you will find some reviews on Google. Regarding functionality it’s one of the best carts on the market anyway the function comparsion should be done by yourself.
I want to compare Prestashop to CS-Cart.

How much better is Prestashop compare to CS-Cart, or is CS-Cart better and why?

Anyone use Prestashop before, new version looking very good and I want to make choice between CS-Cart & Prestashop and very hard choice?
I’ve tried prestashop and it is brilliant. Its very fast.

If all you want to do is add the products sell at a price and sit back and wait for the money to roll it… perfect.

However…If you want to export products and set up discounts, promotions etc… then its not perfect.

Although Prestashop if free, there are a lot of modules you can buy eg Export Proeducts Module, but once you’ve bought all the modules how much has it cost.

With CS-Cart everything is built in ready to go, you just decide what you want switched on or off !.

Personally I think one day prestashop will be in the Blue corner and CS-Cart in the Red corner, but until that day comes along, its CS-Cart.
Indy0077, I do google and it come up saying lots of bug to be fixed yet in CS-Cart. Many say it good cart but no good checkout.

Why so many bug still in CS-Cart when you pay money for it?

Prestashop has some bug too but not as many if I look at Prestashop in google.
Are you going to make a decision based on what you find in Google?

Why don’t you download Prestashop and the CS-Cart trial and see which you prefer?

Bob

Fairly subjective question. My shop was just converted from Prestashop about a month ago. There are pro’s / con’s to both. CS-Cart has “right now” many more professional shipping and payment options compared to prestashop and this was the primary reason I switched. Also Prestashop right now has no official one page checkout ability. There are modules available that help but they are not official solutions.

It is however very fast compared to CS-Cart and I like some of the features it has. For a free cart, it really is a nice solution and people wanting to set up a shop at very low cost, should strongly consider it.

CS-cart on the con side does have some lag issues that can be annoying. There are tweaks available that help but that shouldn’t have to happen. The biggest issue with CS-Cart to me right now is the failed/open order issue that has been discussed in the bugtracker. Hopefully we’ll have a nice fix for this soon. Overall it really depends on what your needs are. Can you provide some examples of what you are looking to do and maybe then we can give you better pro’s/con’s.

I used Prestashop for 8 months and although looks slick and is coming on in leaps and bounds it has serious issues in adding products with options/variants. It recreates hundreds of different producs for each option as seperate products. so if you have a particular product that comes in say 10 colours and then 5 sizes with 5 more weight options you are creating a hell of a lot of produts by the time your done.

Having been through CRE loaded B2b pro, OSC, and presta, I just switched over to CS Cart and I ve gotta say its been a breeze.

CS for me get 9 out of 10 up to now.

Keep smiling!

Hi John,

Interesting to read your feedback on Prestashop. The issues with variation management is also something I found to be lacking in Prestashop.

How do you rate the CS-Cart order/checkout process compared to Prestashop?

I thought Prestashops checkout process is not bad compared to CS-Cart which where CS-Cart needs to lift it’s game.

My company is considering a switch to a new ecommerce platform, and Prestashop and CS-cart are high in the running. Ion_Cannon, I noticed you in the both forums, and you have had experience with both. I do value your opinion on the matter, as well as others who have dealt with both Prestashop and CS-cart.

For our website, we have multiple product page designs, so each page will probably need to use a set of php functions to query the product database, in order display things dynamically (instead of just one generic product page template). I’d like the code to be clean and easily customizable from a developers standpoint, so that we can add in our own features/functions/module where needed, and not be restricted by overhead (ie. Magento).

Finally, here’s the feature list that we need:

reporting

customizable reporting

automated emails

hourly sales

analytics integration

marketing

custom promotion codes

category

price

free shipping

unique gift cards

cross selling and upsetting + reporting

easy update of new products / product changes

one page checkout

search

subscription programs

referral program

customer service

custom cps emails (subject lines)

real time inventory tracking

integration with current system

login system

order history

order tracking

live chat

multiple currencies/ languages

int. tax rates

shipping costs

invoice

Given all of this, please offer your insights on the matter. I greatly appreciate them.

The one feature I like a lot in Prestashop and that doesn’t exist in Cs-Cart is the Buyer Referral feature. Everything else, I think Cs-cart is much superior…

Hopefully, this feature will make its way through the future cs-cart releases… It can be a real sales booster…

Are you joking?! CS-Cart is a disaster at handling products that are being tracked with options/varients.

 1. If you want to hide a product that has been sold in a given size or colour from your customer you have to manually create an exception when clearly the cart should recognise this and make the sold out option greyed out and unable for the user to select.

 2. You can’t view how many items you have in stock at any given time unless you want to trawl through each and every product option and variant.

I’ve been eyeing ViArt for months. They just released a BETA of their newest version. So far, it looks like I will be changing over to ViArt. CS-Cart has too many things I am unhappy with. #1 being the Admin area.

Beta you say? Then RC1 and 2 + final version + some patches, updates and so on.

Allow another min. 6 months before the product is ready. Where in 6 months, CS 2.1 should be out and ready.

No you are getting mixed up, perhaps I should have made my self clearer, I have used presta lots a while ago and what Presta call variants CS cart call options so I was trying to cover the language for CS and the language for Presta, didnt mean to say that CS was better, just that CS is better at handling and importing standard options as it doesnt work the same way as prestashop which in essence creates a seperate product for each option(or variant as presta call them) But gotta say it again, if your using multi option products then CS cart is they way compared to Prestashop (leaving variants and tracking out of the equation for now) as presta is a nightmare. OK if your sellng a phone, but not a phone that comes in many colours and memory sizes.

But I agree Presta is slick and looks good front end. I also think that a lot of people dont realise that the money for CS cart is a good deal compared to some of the C** out there and we can all argue about details between the top of the league i.e. Magento, Viacart,CS Cart blah blah blah. get it and try it 30 days boys and Girls if U Likey U No Buyey.

John

Hello All,

PrestaShop is nice, especialy if you need a very basic cart.

Why?

If you need only one module, you need to put your hand into your wallet…

http://www.prestastore.com/2-modules-prestashop#1

For example, e-commerce means payment. So, you need a payment solution, right?

CS-Cart: FREE

https://www.cs-cart.com/payment-systems.html

PrestaShop: $$$ :???:

http://www.prestastore.com/4-payment-modules-prestashop#1

Module, after module, you need to buy and buy and buy.

Do the math! PrestaShop is MUCH less interesting than many paid-for solutions as soon as you need more than one module!

Also, consider management and expenses for upgrades all those modules you have purchased from different editors, some of which will be simply abandoned or others will close their doors because unprofitable or incompatible with new release…

PrestaShop?

It’s the buying free
(especialy if you need more than one module). Or how to pay big money by pretending that it’s free!

Lee Li Pop

Lee Li Pop:

That’s not necessarily correct.

When I converted to CS-Cart I had to pay for the payment module even though CS-Cart “officially” supported Dibs/Cardia. But as Dibs made changes in their system (and they bought Cardia in the fall of 2007) the Dibs payment module were unusable. So I paid to have a new module written, and later in august 2009 paid to have the module updated to CSC2.

The dibs module wasn’t officially updated until CSC 2.0.13 (and it still wasn’t working then either as there was a bug making the module unusable until I notified them in June about this). But 18 months after I converted to CSC we have a working Dibs module.

I’ve spent 3-400 $, and they started my support days, on this payment module, and I would only have paid 160 euros for the Prestashop Dibs module.

i prefer cscart not presta shop it`s much stable cscart

Hello Eplebiten,

1 - Module for module, which is cheaper?

2 - Which is best buy?

3 - Do you use PrestaShop in real world?

4 - Is that all external modules of PrestaShop base, work perfectly together in all conditions without any conflicts?

Lee Li Pop

I moved from prestashop to cs-cart, best thing I could have done.

Yes, cscart is not perfect, neither are any of the other shopping carts, but Prestashop… well, just to unstable, to many errors, to many gliches, to many uncompatibilities. Forget about it if you plan to have a successfull on-line shop.

But this is just my opinion of course

I responded to your claim about payment modules for CSC is free, while you have to pay for modules for Prestashop, and I referred to the fact that I had to pay a total of 400 $ to have a working payment module. That’s not free. And we’re talking about a module that is included with the cart.

1 - I’ve never said anything about Prestashop being cheaper.

2. That would depend of what you need. Which one would fill your needs the best. If you’re gonna have a store without anything fancy then Prestashop could be the best one. CSC can be too bloated for several stores.

3. Yes, I do. I use the following carts: CSC, Magento, Prestashop and Avactis, and the latter is imho the best one for my use. (And I run several other carts for testing purposes.)

4. All modules can bring forward conflicts. Both those who already written of externally and internaly developers. You could ask Snorocket about this as he is one of the most active rescources within development of addons. I’ve used modules written by 3rd party developers working perfectly, while modules developed by the cart developer have brought nothing but despair.

One example of a module written by the cart developer that brought conflicts would be the Dibs payment module. They introduced a new version of the module, probably based on the one they developed for me, which didn’t work.

Hello Eplebiten,

I didn’t know Avactis.

Terrible “Search Engine Optimized URLs”.
