X-Cart Vs CS-Cart

Take a look at:

http://www.shopping-cart-reviews.com/carts/X-Cart-Gold.aspx

several years ago i did the error of buying Xcart before discovering CS-cart

i have still the licence for it and i often go back and check its upgrades… not worth it

(i guess the true story about cs-cart being alike x-cart (at least version 1.3) in that some x-cart developers did quit there and started CS-cart from scratch… with all the best ideas of x-cart, but NOT the bad features

Yup,

I started at X-cart, my account is like member #320, they have over 10,000 now.

I used X for years, until I found CS.

I actually posted on X forums about some features of CS i liked and asked X to integrate. Because I posted about “competing” products, I was banned once they saw my username on these forums.

There really is NO comparison between X and CS, X has almost ZERO ajax in their cart, their skins suck and they skin file structure is ALL over the place, thousands of TPL files, and limited functionality compared to CS.

This chart maybe a bit dated, like 6 months + but I think you will see that is X is behind without adding on 3rd party encrypted modules at a high cost.

Just my .02.

depends, its mostly html/css and smarty files…but CS has Blocks manager, which is sort of like drag and drop interface to put “blocks” or “sections” of content on pages, with ZERO coding.

X has NOTHING even close to it.

Good Luck!

I just went live with my online store using CS-Cart 2.0.8 and I am definitely a newbie to doing this type of coding. I have been able to make the changes I wanted either on my own or with the great help from these forums. I think the Blocks mentioned by ETInteractive are a great part of CS-Cart and I use them for a number of things in my store.

I looked at X-Cart but decided to go with CS-Cart just due to the fact that I would have to put a lot more money into buying X-Cart plus all of its add-ons. CS-Cart has so many of the same add-ons included in its base price. What a great deal!

Good luck with your decision! I was there not too long ago.

I have an unused x-cart license too. It’s one of the many carts I tried before finding cs-cart.

cscart is double triple than xcart.

Don’t make the x-cart mistake, we have 2 X licenses and left a few years ago when X banned us also like they did to ET, you loose your licenses when they ban you so they basically stole our money. X banned me because I was developing awesome addons like the dealer locator, the money wasn’t going into there greedy little pockets so they banned me, in addition they accused me pf providing pirated copies of their software to warez sites which I never did. Luckily at the same time CS was started so I left for CS, it’s been great with CS ever since, ET, I and others push CS everyday to become the best e-commerce choice, glad you got the demo up and running, let us know how it works out and hopefully we’ll see you in the forums soon - Sno
Just need to clarify if I should turn 777 back to 755 for security purposes.
Only the var, images, skins and catalog directories and all its subdirectories and files should have 777 permissions. You can read in more detail about this here:

CS-Cart Documentation — CS-Cart 4.15.x documentation

-Sno

I’m pretty sure there are a lot more than 15. Check out the demo: Instant Demo - CS-Cart Multi-Vendor Demo Try Free for 15 days

There is a typo in their instruction or something (and same in the PDF manual). Anyways thats not right:
Most CS-Cart files should have 644 permissions, all the directories should have 755 ones. The var, images, skins and catalog directories and all its subdirectories and files should have 777 permissions.
Files should never have 644 permision.

I recommend:
1) images, skins and catalog = 755 (optional 777)

2)
var and subdirectories = 755 (optional 777)

3) config.local.php = 644 (optional 666)
Try it with 755 and 644, you will see in the installation window if it’s OK or not. If not then change it to 777 and 666.

P.S. Yes the config.local.php have to be set back to 644 (and all other files if any).
Quick question on skin selector.

I notice there are only 15 different skins… is this all that comes with the trial version and production or is there more somewhere on the CS-Cart site or accessible via admin access.?
In the 2.0.12 have to be around 40 skins.

Ok, I am offically member of the forum now.

Thanks for clarifying the permission setting indy.

In admin I can only see 15 skins and my download is definitely 2.0.12 which I have just checked also.

 1. Can you tell me what folder/directory the skins files are meant to be located in. I can check that to confirm.

 2. If I don’t have all the skins for whatever reason, can I download from the CS-Cart site somewhere?

 3. Is there somwehere in the admin I can check for sure that my install is 2.0.12(like a version no to check somwhere within the application?

The skins should be in /var/skins_repository. You can download the fill 2.0.12 package in the file area of the helpdesk:

helpdesk.cs-cart.com

The easiest way to check your version is by going to YOURDOMAIN/?version

 1. /var/skins_repository/ *** I checked it, they are exact 40 skins ***

 2. should be in the regulary csc zip package (cscart_v2.0.12.zip)

 3. http://www.yoursite.xxx/?version or in the root in the changelog.txt file

Thanks guys.

Yes, I can see the remain on my PC folder under var/skins_repository/** but they are not all copied across to my server folder for some reason. That expalins that problem.

Am I ok to just ftp only that folder without breaking anything?

Yes, no problem.

Fantastic response time.

I did also open a ticket with helpdesk and will wait to see what response time I get as part of my trial.

But, I can’t complain if the forum is working together and responding quickly…!

Thank you

Hi

I have looked at many carts, and I have also reviewed X-Cart, I recall it being incomplete.

CS-Cart seems to answer most of my demands, although it is lacking in some areas. However, they are nearly coming out with an updated release almost every month. Plus, you can ask them to customize somethings for you too.

In my opinion, You’re better off with cs-cart, unless x-cart has something you desparately need, but I doubt this too.

Thanks

Walt
I am new and looking at shopping cart for my small business.

I’ve come across CS-Cart after looking at Interspire & Zencart. Have to say CS-Cart looks & feels much easier to use as a newbie.

However, I have come across X-Cart in my trial & elimination process and I am about to download and trial X-Cart.

Before I spend too much time down this track, I would be interested to hear from this forum how X-Cart compare with CS-Cart.

Looking at the demo, it looks very similar but how us support and product stability etc?
