I do not propose to renew the certificate because times are really tough and I currently do not accept PayPal or credit card payments.
I am currently requesting that buyers send cash through the mail.
( the last sentence was a flimsy joke )
I do not collect any sensitive information during registration.
SSL is a customer thing isn’t it ?
The absence of it doesn’t make hacking easier does it ?
 Did you know you could get a SSL cert from godaddy for just $29.99??
So you don’t use paypal or accept credit cards… are you selling anything?? You need SSL if you are taking payment information on your site. You can get by without a SSL cert if you take payments entirely through a 3rd party like paypal.
SSL is to protect the information as it is being transmitted over the internet - as in when your customers’ credit card numbers are being communicated to the gateway, for instance.

didn’t you learn anything from the “security” post?you need ssl to login safe in the admin panel
Will check out godaddy.
gabrieluk… I didn’t learn much from those security posts. The remedies seemed to involve either paying an expert, taking your chances or believing the software designers who don’t see any threat.
I might just close the store until I can wade through the instructions…lol
eBay is firing like crazy for us just now even though it is a razor’s edge enterprise.
When I can get some spare time or find SSL Certificates for Dummies I will re-open the store.
Termalert,
An SSl cert is a slow as around $10 from rapid ssl or others shop around.
Installing can usually be done for free by your host.
If you are on a shared account you can usually get a free shared ssl cert which will work fine for security although not as good looking as having your own.
Probably best to just call my host and start there.
