Good morning!

I copied over a list of keywords that my client had generated for his site. When the admin panel refreshed only a portion of them were showing. Is there a bug or am I limited to the number of characters in the keyword section?

Thanks in advance for any and all help!

Jeff

As far as know the number of meta keywords should be max 4 or 5 for the most effective means of serch engines if you try to fill the full page. So be careful for too many keywords!!. But this may be a limit set by cs-cart or a bug since early as 1.35 up to 2.09?

This is from the database:

Table: cscart_product_descriptions

Field: meta_keywords varchar(255)
Field: meta_description varchar(255)

Either the DB is truncating it or its in the template that handles inputting those fields

Would there be any particular reason why keywords should be limited to 255 characters?

My client sent me a long list of keywords. I'm rather new at SEO and trying to understand the fine points.

I'm assuming more words, even if they are relevant, isn't good?

The display in Design->Site layout is limited to 2 rows of 55 characters each.

The homepage keywords are stored in the cscart_language_values table. The 'value' field is defined as TEXT meaning it can take 65535 characters. Search for 'home_meta_keywords' in Content->Languages. You should be able to (drag) scroll through your full content there.

thanks for the information!

I was able to find the data you specified. I did a character count and the keywords for the individual products are limited to 255 characters.

I guess we need to whittle them down quite a bit.

I think you are in the wrong forum here, if you want learn SEO. But just few tips:

1. don't use more as 3 keyword phrases (I say phrases because you can't rank for 1-word keywords)
2. each phrase should appear in the title (at begin is better as at the middle or end), in the description and in the content.
3. use 1-2x bold
4. use a link with anchor text of this phrase in your site and link to this page
5. DON'T SPAM THE KEYWORDS!
6. optimize 1 phrase only for 1 page (if you think you can use 3, 4, or more phrases on a page and you will rank by SE, then you are wrong, because you need the keyword density too)
7. SE take care on H1 tags too as very important. Each title in CS Cart is "H1". I hope now you know, what I will say.

... and so on...

Hy Indy,
When you say each title you refer to the "page title"?So,if i use a "h1" inside the product description, with a specific keyword phrase is bad?i will have duplicated "h1"?So should i apply "h2" inside the products description?
best regards,
Gabriel

I would say, you should use H1 only once in each article.

1. Use the original title field in CSC for your keywords or
2. Change the H1 tag of the title to e.g. div-tag with a class in your template

<div class="***">The title</div>

and use H1 in your body text of an article instead.

I would not use a H2.
