Is there an easy way to disable the manufactures sidebox? And explain how i can edit the shopping options?
You can remove the manufacturer sidebox by disabling or removing the appropriate block in Design->Blocks.
The shopping options are generated dynamically. You can limit a sidebox to a single product filter (like the manufacturers sidebox) or allow the all the filters to appear (as in the standard shopping options). You can adjust the ranges for the Price filter at the Ranges link in Catalog->Product filters. You can also choose whether to display a particular product filter on the home page.

How did you get the manufacturers displayed? Is there an add-on for it?

mine was displayed automatically but you can set it up. in your blocks area within the design tab on the admin panel, you should see a shopping options block, if its not there, you can create one.
content would be product filters, filling, would be dynamic, set the apearance to product_filters.tpl… and the wrapper would be sidebox_general.tpl
manufactuers should be in your product filters block content

Do you know how to make this display as a drop down list instead of putting all the manufacturers on the page like what it does currently?
