Subdomain or subfolder?

Is it best to put CS-Cart in a subdomain or a subfolder, or does it matter?

Subdomain:

http://store.mysite.com

Subfolder:

http://www.mysite.com/store/

Let me know what you think.

SUBDOMAIN is the correct way.

subfolder rating is added to the main domain as part of the main domain.

subdomain is rating is handled separetly as if as a seperate domain.

What do you mean by “rating”?

I mean everything, Rank, Keyword, Website, Content you expect from a separate domain.

Sub-domain is preferred. Many hosts allow you to host as many as 5 sub-domains for free so why wouldn’t you.

Yes, but you can not use single cs-cart licence seperately in each sub-domain due to the licence restriction.

Use news.domain , forum.xxdomain, blog.domain , shop.domain (cs-cart) or

multi language sub doman de.domain , eng.domain, fr.domain

If cs-cart 2.x did have multi-shop feature /multishop multilanguage, I would love to see multi language seo creation for each subdomain

You’r right, but the Alexa counts the subdomain to the main domain, so in Alexa case doesn’t matter.

Here is my experience with subdomain vs. subfolder.

I use sub domains massively.

A few rules I have placed on myself over time are the following:

If you use subdomains, then make sure that the main domain is not related to any subdomain name either in terms of category or phrase.

The main domain name may provide the same focus but is not related to any niche or group of niche.

For example:

Main domain tips.com

You can use selling.tips.com, ecommerce.tips.com, health.tips.com

The main domain is same but when it’s used for a subdomain, it allows for very distinct domain and site creations.

Recipes.com would not be the same. It’s use creates too much ‘relevance’

and to have many of them coming from the same server could cause problems.

If your focus is primary on PPC (keywords) then I would go the subdomain route.

If your focus is primarily seo and content driven then go the subfolder route.

If you go the subdomain route and your focus is content / seo then do not go wild cross linking the sub domains…that will bring problems.

Indy! I’m watching you

Are you married or still looking for a handsome guy?

You’re right, but subdomains and inner pages (or inner directories) are more difficult to get white hat backlinks from others webmasters.

Especially many of web directories don’t want any subdomains, nor inner pages at all.

This is the biggest SEO problem with subdomains and inner pages (or inner directories).

So, I think root directory is better in a white hat SEO purpose.

Right,

for new customers with small budget to marketing their online store we recommend to use WP (fast Google indexing and excellent SEO) as traffic page that links to the shop.

With right use of them, your site can be on the #1 Google page within 4 weeks or less.

indy0077,

What is WP? White Papers? What if your site isn’t that kind of site? I don’t sell original products. I am more of a store.

Thanks,

Adam

WP = Wordpress

Wordpress is there to make the site naturaly more popular (blogging, rss, news, etc) on the web, it will be pinged every time, if u write a new post or a comment. Next, the rss subscriptions can bring traffic too to your page.
