Paypal Processing Help

Hey all…

I am trying to setup standard Paypal (not pro) for processing on a shopping cart we are using. I just switched the processor over to Paypal and now I am getting this:

Account:

Name of the item (or a name for the Shopping Cart):

Currency:

Test/Live mode:

Order prefix:

What do I enter in those blanks and where do I further setup the paypal information in order to process payments.

Thanks in advance!

Aaron

Account, I filled in my email log in used for my pay pal account.

Name, I put my shops name, though don’t know if thats right.

Currency, I found out they only accept USD

Test, I put test for now, but only works if you’ve set up a paypal test account.

Prefix, dont need it, didnt’ fill in.

I think you need a pay pal account even if its not pro. Can set one up at www.paypal.com, expect a big run around trying to get to do anything though.

Note I have no actual experience in using paypal yet…

Account: Your Primary PayPal email address.

Name of the item (or a name for the Shopping Cart): Just like is says. Example: SculptingStudio.com

Currency: The currency sent to PayPal will be this type. For dollars in the United states, it is USD. (There should be a dropdown containing the correct values.)

Test/Live mode: Select Live, unless you know how to use the PayPal sandbox.

Order prefix: You can leave this blank.

you shouldnt have a problem setting up a regular pay pal account, but if you want pay pal pro, then buckle in for the ride.

Thanks for all of your help everyone. It kinda confused me from the beginning, but I knew you guys would be able to help out.

Thanks again!

always glad to give back

you should seriously look into a real merchant account if you plan on doing this longterm. All it takes is one whammy with paypal and they keep your cash for up to 180 days. Better rates, fast money, more security etc with a real merchant. Paypal is great if you buy on ebay, but if your gonna be doing volume and rely on every penny coming in, then just hope your account doesnt draw attention, cause then your done.

I find PayPal has much better rates and I get the cash instantly. The longest I’ve had cash held was 5 days when a customer bounced their backup funding and I’ve never lost a single dollar. I find most of my customers already have a PayPal account. (PayPal has over 100 million users!) If you visit PayPal, you can see a list of big brands accepting PayPal:

On the other hand, I’ve had chargebacks with NPC up to 6 months after the purchase and the funds remain in limbo for upto 2 months. The fees are higher for internet businesses and the money takes 24 to 48 hours to hit the bank. This is one reason I don’t use NPC much. The only reason I still use NPC is if I go to a show and I need swipe cards on my wireless credit card terminal.

pay pal pro is fine, it is less expesnive for high volume low purchase price. ive been using it with no problem. ive had some chargebacks because of fraud but thats just part of the game. i haven had to wait too long for them to get resolved.
