Free Shipping depending on cost

Just so I get my wish in here, I don’t understand why nobodies thought of this feature.

Once a customer puts a large order, you offer the goods to be shipped freely. It’s something customers can aim for and keep buying stuff in order to get something ‘free’. It helps keep big customers loyal.

that’s good, looking forward to it

it should be part of the “Special Offers” module… which, as far as i remember was told in june, is coming soon!

Last time I check, CS-Cart reps told me that the new versison will be release by the end of september

That is an awesome idea!

1.3.4rc are coming… but no Special Offers module… right?

Can you not already do this?

– Make a new shipping method entitled “Free Shipping on Orders of $xx.xx or More! ($yy.yy otherwise)”

– Then, in the Products Cost section for that method, do a “More than $0” with a rate of whatever you want ($yy.yy), and another item “More than $xx.xx” with a rate of $0

Seems to work for our store, but maybe your shipping is more complicated?

I just tried and it works. All shops should push a limit for free shipping. Many customers do add extra stuff to cart just to get past the free shipping limit. Which of course increases your sales aswell.

Hey wwgreen,

I just wanted to give you a major THANK YOU for posting this…this was the missing link for me on setting up an in-store pickup option on my store which I had spent hours trying to figure out and could not get to work…I even posted to my own thread after a month or so asking if anyone had any ideas…you gave me the missing link I needed. I had actually messed with this but did not think to add in another rate (I just kept the default one and added a charge) and did some other funky stuff…anyway, my store now has an “in-store” pickup option and my boss is finally off my butt on figuring it out!!! Thanks a million and have a Happy Thanksgiving!!!

Cheers,

Travis

travis - No problem. I stumbled upon CS about a month ago, had no previous knowledge of anything really. So, I am sure there are better ways of doing things than what I suggest. But I’m teaching myself and if I can help others, then even better.

Glad your problem is resolved, back at ya on the holiday wishes. We do indeed have much to be thankful for.

Travis, I thought I told you about in store pickup already?

Anyways, this suggestion requires the customer to notice that he is in the ‘free shipping’ price and to manually select this himself. I dont actually expect my customers to be so responsible.

My shipping is weight dependent otherwise, so its no point fiddling filling in a cost dependent rate other than what is needed to be ‘free’, and then put in ‘0’ shipping. So if someone selects this, and isnt in the ‘free shipping’ range, theyll get no shipping costs anyways.

I think it wouldnt be so hard to be able to use all the dependencies in one shipping method, but specify which order of priority each rule should be used. That is, I can specify free shipping according to cost over-rules all the other weight and item cost dependencies.

Tails - Correct. If you are starting from scratch or only have one flat rate for shipping, you can do it the way I described. Or, if you have more complicated or existing shipping needs, you can always just add more if/then charges/lines to the methods you already have to get shipping costs to $0.

I would like to see a Global Discount for Free Shipping. Currently, you can set up a discount coupon for Free Shipping but I would like this to be automatic. Of course, I would really like to also be able to exclude some items (e.g., items dropshipped from the manufacturer) from the floor calculation.

I have tried this with both Manual and Realtime options, yet this shipping option does not show up during checkout on orders over $50. Anyone tell me what I’m missing?

For starters, your “More than $0” should have a value of something other than “0.00” if you’re doing it manually.

For example, our store has free shipping on orders over a certain amount, and $10 flat rate shipping on orders less than that amount. So our value for “More than $0” is “10.00”.

Does that help?
