Would you consider this a blog, or something else?

Hey guys,

I could use some advice (like what else is new?).

Much of what I'll be offering in my store is related to custom woodworking. That's been my career for the past 30 odd years before starting this on line venture, so I have a lot of experience to draw on.

One of the ways I plan on generating traffic to my store is via a series of instructional articles/videos pertaining to woodworking. Aside from direct You Tube traffic, hopefully this content will make the search engine gods smile upon me as well.

While I have a pretty clear idea on the type of content I want to share, I'm a little unsure on just how it ought to be presented. From what I've seen, typical blogs run in reverse chronological order with the more recent posts being favored, while yesterdays posts seem to be yesterday's news.

Rather than just having a single massive list of posts, I'd much rather break it up into perhaps a dozen or more main categories, so visitors can find the content they want. That said, when someone does log onto my blog page, I'd want the most recent post there for easy access.

In a nutshell, I don't think I'll want to look at this as a “blog”, but more of a “learning center”.

Is this something that can be done with a CS cart Add-on? If so, which one? Does is sound like something that should reside on an independent webpage and linked to from my CS cart site? Some other scheme?

All advice is most welcome and appreciated!

Then I would do this internal to your cart so you can structure your “page” hierarchy. You can imbed videos (suggest you embed uTube videos so you get the most of your searches) and you can outline your instructions or supply other photos, etc. I would structure the pages by whatever makes sense to your market.

Hello MFD!

Please, check out our Blog add-on CS-Cart Blog add-on You can try demo to see if it works for you. Also we can develop more functionality exactly to your business needs for some extra charge.

Now this add-on costs $49 but the next week the price will be increased, it will cost $59. Welcome, if you are interested.

Best regards, Alt-team

I would still suggest you to use a blogging software like wordpress on your domain.

for example if you run your cart on example.com

Use example.com/blog to run wordpress site on this one (don't use blog.example.com):

Benefits :

  1. you can get it up in one day at most.
  2. having same domain will improve your cart's search rankings
  3. Using wordpress means most of the seo optimization techniques have already been implemented.
  4. Make it multiple posts on blog if its a series of tutorial.

we have tried this and it worked well for us.

    regds,

Thanks guys,

Shikhar, do you think you could send me a link to your site (privately if you like)? I'd like to see how your WordPress blog lays out.

Just a note… Almost every hack attack I've ever investigated on a site has come in through wordpress. While current versions are much better, it's kind of like Microsoft. New entriy points are discovered all the time, and it's always the last one…

Demo doesn't work … would like to try it before purchasing. Is 4.0 including a blog?

Hello afreshup!

Thank you for directing our attention to the demo problem. It will be fixed. Currently our Blog add-on is compatible with CS-Cart 3 but we plan to make it compatible with CS-Cart 4 after the official release. It will take some time though, because CS-Cart 4 has some key differences from CS-Cart 3.

As far as we know, CS-Cart 4 will not include a Blog by default. Please read the changelog for CS-Cart 4 here https://www.cs-cart.com/changelog401beta.html .
