…my host is upgrading to PHP 5.3+ in a few weeks - I'm currently running CS 2.1.4… am I likely to have any problems with the upgrade?

I did search but haven't found reference to 2.1.4 on PHP 5.3+ as yet.

You should be fine. If your site is running 5.3, all DEPRECATION errors are ignored.
