Which version of "Cs" is or was the most stable?

Currently We’re running 2.0.12. I’d like to get the opinion of the forum. Which version of Cs-cart do you feel is or was the most stable and useful overall? 2.0 - current versions. And Why? Thanks in advance…

Stu

If you want to stay with the 2.0.x branch than I would go with 2.0.15.

2.0.15 includes a lot of bug fixes and I believe some security fixes.

Upgrading from 2.0.12 to 2.0.15 would be relativily simple if your site isn’t heavily modified.

The upgrade from 2.0.x to 2.1.x is a little bit more complex especially if you have a heavily modified store.

Right now, I’m dealing with a couple 2.1.1 stores and a 2.1.2 store. I haven’t seen any issues yet, but the stores are pretty simple. The skins are modified, but not much of the functionality is different than the stock install. Plus I don’t use a lot of the features that CS-Cart has by default.

Hope that helps,

Brandon

I too would suggest 2.0.15… “Stable” can be a relative term. There are a lot of new things in 2.1 and a lot of “re dos” of old things. In reading the bug reports and forum it does not appear that the 2.1 branch is “stable” yet. At least not according to my definition. I’d llke to see a release where there aren’t immediate fixes to get things to work after the update is available. When that happens, things might be approaching “stability”.

I plan to take a serious look at about the 2.1.4 timeframe. But I won’t move (nor make it available to my customers) till an updatable mini-cart is back on the single page checkout.

1.3.5sp4 was by far the best for me - yes not as many features and was not the latest technology in many areas - but was never overwhelmed with all the bugs/quirks in 2.0 branch. Just my 2 cents.

Thanks guys for your opinions. Probably go with 2.0.15 until the waters are calm.

Stu, sorry to throw more confusion into the mix, however, we run a rather active store on 2.1.1 with no problems whatsoever, nadda.

Just the added improvements in 2.1+ alone make it a no-brainer for us. We have alot of long term, repeat customers that have placed orders thru every CS-Cart version used on our store from 1.3.4 on, and I can confidently say, that from a usability standpoint, that after upgrading to 2.1.1 we have rcvd far less confusion related calls from our customers while placing orders online. I hear a few people speak of the minicart display and the way the checkout is now presented in 2.1+, and I can understand their concern, however, as a simple minded business owner, it is just plain working as designed for us (and I absolutely hate problems as they waste my precious time)!

PS: I plan to be updated to 2.1.2 by end of tomorrow simply for the added speed benefits to be gained. For uhm… years, people have been complaining about the number of DB calls when rendering CS pages, ok, so they listened and made improvements to this issue, took awhile, but they did it, time to check it out.

Thanks Struck,

The speed issue was more of a concern with us in 2.1.1 as I absolutely need to have a speedy backend in admin. 2.0.12 is excellent for this, but when we actually launch, knowing that you have had your best run on 2.1.1, then we might just wait for the next release.

The info that you just provided is very valuable in knowing how your customers react to different versions. Thanks for sharing.

Remember that the next release is planned to have the new Jquery installed and they are changing all the pickers, search routines, etc. Hence I would expect it to be “less than stable” for at least 2 releases to follow if history plays out in the future as it has in the past. Redoing areas that were difficult to stabilize to start with and were now close to stable being redone in order to use a newer toolkit will generate a lot of new issues that will invariably NOT be caught by cs-cart testing process.

2.0.15 it is. Forgot about that. It will be a big mess I’m sure. Thanks for the heads up. Now everybody hush…I’ve made my mind up. :stuck_out_tongue:

I’m currently testing 2.0.15 in order to upgrade my shop but I found out that the bug that affects design/bloks is still there, since, at least, 2.06 version, strange thing, so many upgrades and they never came up with a solution?!

Would go w latest available, every upgrade is a challange…

Oh, but you might miss out on a new implementation of an old feature that you don’t use!

Big thing in 2.0.15, the mini side cart is still on the one page checkout. However, at this point, I will let my developer make the call. Got a feeling we’ll wait to see what 2.1.2 looks like.
