Hello all
I’ve been doing a bit of research lately and keep reading that you should really host a website in the country that it’s aimed at.
I have a UK based website aimed at UK customers, but I’ve been hosting my site in the US (CyberLNC). I’m very reluctant to move my site to another server host, but I’m getting worried that my IP address may be preventing me from getting higher on Google in the UK, even though I have a .co.uk domain.
If it does affect my Google ranking , will it be significant, or will it be so tiny it’s not worth worrying about?
Any help on this would be gratefully received.
Hello Doddles,
No problem. I have many French websites hosted in the USA with fixed US IP, #1 on Google.fr.
However, it could be a good idea to chose a “.co.uk” domain name to be ranked in “pages from the UK”, like mine with my “.fr” domains names also ranked #1 in “Pages : France” SERP
Remember: Google is an American company… Why Google would penalize American companies?
You can stay in your US webhosting company!

Thanks Lee Li
It’s a bit of a minefield out there with regards to definite advice on where you should host. I’ve got a .co.uk domain, so hopefully, like you have suggested, I won’t have any trouble getting ranked on UK pages despite being hosted in the US.
I’m with CyberLNC at the moment and I’m very happy with them, so with your advice to put my mind at rest, I won’t be moving hosts any time soon.
Hello Doddles,
I know your feelings about your “webhosting company”, as you know mine…
I’m here to share information, just, true, tested by myself in the past years.
If in your personal case there was a risk, I would tell it you in the same way I did to warn about some “webhosting companies”. But, in your case, there is nothing to fear. You can stay in your “webhosting company”.
However, you don’t have to take my word, and you can find the truth by testing my URLs:
I speak of my sites on that post this (Please, click on links, they’re Google SERP links, you will find my URLs on rank #1):
Hi All,
Please! Don’t write here the URL of my websites. Many thanks!
My Virtuemart website is #1 on Google’s natural SERP to this request:
Robe Chinoise
My CS-Cart website is #1 on Google’s natural SERP to this request:
Robe Enfant

Thank you to respect my privacy …
And then you can do a whois on my two domain name to check the location of my servers:
Whois Lookup Captcha
You will find:
IP Location: - Pennsylvania - Pittsburgh - Pair Networks
#1 on Google France with an American IP
You know what can I say about Pair, isn’t it?
The only thing I recommend is to have a static and private IP for your new site. “.co.uk”.

It depends on your targeted keywords too. If my keyword phrase looks like “what are doing my grandma yesterday” then my site will be 100% the #1 on all Google TLD.
I would say, it is very important if you want target your site to a country to have your site hosted there too. And very well, if your site is new on the net.
We use eukhost i dont work for these guys
but the support is outstanding 24/7 and they 99.9% deliver
I had them fixing cart before now
