View Cart Contents during Checkout

On 2.1.1, a customer is not able to view the cart contents during checkout. As in this picture on the cs-cart website:

https://www.cs-cart.com/checkout.html

My 2.0.15 stores do show the contents on the right hand side, but on 2.1.1, there is no cart on the right hand side during checkout.

Is this intentional with 2.1.1 or do I have something set up wrong?

Thanks!

Steve

Yes, it was some developers decision to remove functionality that people actually liked in 2.0 when they redid the other checkout issues in 2.1. They can explain the tax/discount issues to customers but won’t accept the lost sales from those who want to change their quantities, options, etc. but dont’ see the ability to do so (at all steps in the process).

Bad choice and one of the main reasons my customers do not want to move to 2.1. They’re willing to accept the awful tax/discount calcs in 2.0 rather than have such a non-standard single page checkout in 2.1.

If it’s not back with 2.1.2, I am going to seriously consider going back to 2.0.15. Customers should definitely be able to see their cart during checkout!

Yeah, I’m surprised there has not been more uproar about that on the forums, but it’s been pretty much a silent topic.

ROAR:mad:

DOUBLE ROAR - this is a huge mistake and I wish there was some option to add a cart type block to the checkout - at minimum a readonly view of cart contents.

Anyone hack something for this?

Read-only adds no value. Need to see cart contents, quantities (editable) of items and selected options (along with other options).

Why do we need hundreds of votes for a new feature to be even considered but one programmer can just delete a useful feature without asking?

STeve.

Called politics dude…

Not 100% sure why but I’m sure he/she had their reason at the time.

Just for the sh%# and giggles of it, I contacted Cs about this very issue. Guess what they had to say…sure you seasoned Cs-cart guys can guess. Yep your correct.
Hey Guys,

Can you please bring back the ability to edit the cart during checkout back? It existed in 2.0.15 and then it disappeared. It’s a must have and I hate needing to pay a developer to put this back when it use to be out of the box function.

Don’t get it guys?

Dear Stu,

Thank you for your request.

We are sorry to hear that you are disappointed with this situation. Note that all new features are discussed on our CS-Cart forums and UserVoice service (the service from which our engineers get ideas about new features) before they are implemented in the next CS-Cart release.

Unfortunately, requests of this kind are not covered by our technical support service. Yet, I suggest that you should consider our custom development service. Our custom development specialist can explore whether it is possible to change CS-Cart code to meet your requirements and, if possible, can estimate your request. Please let me know if you are interested in it and I will forward your request to our specialist.

Sincerely yours,

Pavel Zyukin

This really doesn’t even need to be an option, it should just exist. Every freakin eCommerce site that exists has this very function that they refuse to implement. Sounds like a money making ploy to me. It just amazes me how Cs-Cart doesn’t pay any attention what so ever to what the trends are. Secondly they don’t check the upgrades before release.

I appreciate the effort of the CS-cart team but why waste your time if you only get the job half done. Waste lots of time for lots of shop owners. I stay on board because there is such, such great potential:D

Sounds like you might be getting on the right track, but it has yet to be seen.

I say these things with a big smile on my face:D :stuck_out_tongue:

Stu

I too emailed support on this very subject - sent early morning, so was not expecting to get answer from them - but suspect a repeat of your cscart reply - this is extremely unfortunate - as much as I hate to do this - anyone interested in splitting the “customization” costs for this to be put back into 2.1.1 and above?

Is there a uservoice already started on this topic -not that it will help us

thx

In 2.1.1 if you click in the cart icon ( in the top left side) it drops-down and show a link to “view cart” and “checkout”.

Could be possible create a block with the “index.php?dispatch=checkout.cart” in it, and place it in the checkout section?

or just make a new buttom right next to the cart icon that said something like “update your cart”, or “review your cart”?

that website is loaded with interesting info.

All good tips on that link. I have more conversions on multi-page checkouts. There will always be a debate on the single vs. multi page checkout but i do think there is a flawed conception that the multipage checkout is the wrong way to go. I read out of 500 major online sales site only Gap.com uses single page checkout. There has to be a reason for that…the article also said that Gap.com lost conversions when it switched to single page checkout… weird huh?

I don’t think the checkout page should have the ability to update the shopping cart.

That’s what the view cart page before the checkout page is for.

However, I do have 2 issues with the new checkout page.

 1. Dynamic ajax add to cart shows a pop-up with ‘continue shopping’ and ‘checkout’. Clicking on ‘checkout’ goes directly to the checkout page and not to the view cart page. Checkout should always go through the 2 steps. Reviewing your cart and making the final changes to your shopping cart before proceeding to the final checkout process.

 2. The checkout page should have a purchase summary on top. Shouldn’t need the ability to edit the cart since that’s the previous step. However, having a purchase summary removes any doubt and uncertainty of what the potential customers is purchasing before s/he enters her information and credit card. The customers wants to know for sure what they are ordering BEFORE entering their information, not AFTER entering their information.

I think it’s important to make your checkout as dummy-proof as possible. There should be Edit links everywhere a customer might need to change something especially the cart contents:

A single page checkout needs to be just that… Single page. That means I should be able to update info about items already in my cart as well as have visibility of what’s in my cart before I even start the various steps.

I read the checkout thread and no where does it explicitly state that the mini-cart would be removed. The thumbnails show it’s not there if you notice, but that just doesn’t seem right.

The issue with checkout in 2.0 was the results of both successful and failed/declined checkout processes. The landing page was what was confusing. That’s what was intended to be addressed, not removing functionality that was actually quite useful.

I’m sure cs feels that they did what their users requested since there was no “Don’t do that” in the checkout thread. However, now that the issue has been raised, I would expect them to correct it versus charge for changes and/or to ignore the need.

Just my two cents.

In the meantime, you guys can download my cart_sidebox and turn it on for the checkout page.

Not really designed for that page, but if you are in desperate need for a cart on the sidebar. You can make some chances so it’ll work nicer on your website.
