Does anyone have any experience with stores containing 1,000,000 plus items? Before I take on this project I want to make sure that CS-Cart will function with something like this.
Any advice would be helpful
Thanks in advance
WOW…I’m not sure too many off the shelf mom and pop carts could handle 1M products. However the real issue is not 1M products but are you getting 10 hits a day or 1M hits a day should determine your choice. CS-Cart is a great solution for small to medium sized businesses but a client who seriously has 1M products is probably barking up the wrong tree here. You might want to check out an enterprise solution like ElasticPath - Sno
thanks for the advice…I do not really know what the potential traffic is going to be for this project since they’ve never done it before. But I did receive the product database and it’s about 1,750,000 unique items. So I’m guessing I might need to look for something a bit more robust…
Other than ElasticPath does anyone know other good enterprise level e-commerce solutions?
Sno what is for you an medium business, how many items? also up to?

CS-Cart (fixed version) can handle a store of this size with a little code tweaking and planning but, you will definitely need to run this store on a powerful dedicated server. This will be true regardless of the cart type you choose.
A shop with that many products will require many server variables to be raised very high for processing common admin tasks as well as system functions such as daily backups and stat runs. There must be adequate resources available to accommodate this and that will be expensive.
Regardless of the cart type you choose, I’d be happy to help you to determine a server configuration that will support it.
I’m still trying to figure out if I even want to take on this project. The servers I’m running now are:
Intel Xeon 3450 (Quad Core) w/16gb ram per server. Would something like that be sufficient?
There’s a few unknowns that I need to try and sort out as well. For one, the product catalog is nearly 3.5gb. Is there a better way to load it into CSC, since a standard MS Excel tops out at 65k lines per page on import?
Does anyone have any similar or even remotely close sized site?
That system should support the site but I recommend using a hardware RAID 5 or 10 array and avoid running backups as that would kill your cpu with all of the files involved.
I’ll let those more familiar with importing answer your other question
