I have to upgrade a friends cs-cart, and it is not been done for several years.
We are also changing the theme because her current theme is no longer available.
She only has very few products, am I better off, installing the latest version, and importing her products, or upgrading from her old site step by step.

Thank you, thank you for responding, have actually just got an answer from cs-cart because I am going to 4.2 up they said to do the actual upgrades.
So I have installed a development site, and am doing it there first just to make sure, and when that is working ok I will make the same changes on my actual working site.

Best bet is to probably upgrade to keep the orders as well. This will be a pain but iirc you can install upgrades from the CLI if you want.
