Hi , even though I already posted this as a bug in the bugtracker I hope to find some possible answers here in the forum.
The dialogue screen after clicking on the install the upgrade will not expand

Didn't you already upgrade one store without issue? If so, why would this be a bug in the second?
To be blunt, with all the issues you have/had, I would say that your install(s) have some kind of file issues.
As for the error/warning, the file mentioned is a backend cached css file. Try deleting the cache and trying the upgrade again.

Well this one is again our mainstore and even thoug it is on the same server, identical to the one for which the upgrade that went just fine I am not so sure why.

You can say that again. Last one of the store was missing an file and in one other instance one file symply was not upgraded.
At any case I have followed each step that might be wrong with it just like last time but I am coming up blank right now. I have no clue this time around. The workarounds of before like renameing directories and or refreshing download packages, checking writing permissions just will not do it.
