Thin Theme By Themehills

Hi everyone,

Thin Theme 4.03 and 5.00 are available.

4.03 is a backend only release: PHP 8.2 and 8.3 compatibility and the new licensing system. The storefront is untouched, so the update is safe to install on a live store.

5.00 is the storefront one:

  • native lazy loading of images, no JavaScript library involved
  • the home slider does not jump anymore
  • jQuery is served locally, demo banners are WebP (783 KB to 195 KB)
  • pictures without an alt description fall back to the product or banner name, and icon only links got accessible names
  • demo banners and the Categories block are created for your store instead of pointing at ids from our demo
  • storefront strings translated into every language that ships with CS-Cart

Both updates arrive through the Upgrade Center, one after the other.

Hi everyone,

Thin Theme 5.01 is out.

The main change is about banners. The store setting Settings > Thumbnails > Thumbnail format never reached them: banners and the logo were output at their original size and went past the thumbnail generator, so they stayed JPEG or PNG even with WEBP switched on. Now the theme sends the width, the images go through the generator, and the setting applies to them like it does to everything else. Banners also got srcset and sizes, so a phone downloads a phone sized picture instead of the desktop one.

The update arrives through the Upgrade Center.

Thin Theme 6.00 is out, and 6.01 right behind it with the fixes that came out of the first day on our own demo stores.

The headline: the theme now comes with a new add-on, Fast Blocks.

It stops the storefront from building blocks it is not going to show. Blocks you hid on phones in the layout editor are no longer built for phones at all: no queries, no HTML, no cache entry. Heavy blocks below the first screen leave the first response and load as the visitor scrolls to them, behind a skeleton that repeats their shape.

The theme is ready for it out of the box: the shipped layouts already carry the lazy markup, so a fresh install needs nothing configured by hand. On our demo home page that is 373 KB → 186 KB on desktop and 360 KB → 170 KB on a phone.

Main content, product filters, breadcrumbs, the cart and every checkout step are never deferred, so nothing about the order flow changes.

Also in 6.00:

  • product lists pick the picture size for the screen: sharp on retina, no oversized downloads
  • theme colours are CSS variables now, so a shop can be restyled without recompiling the theme
  • the carousel and animation libraries load only when a block really uses them
  • the demo menu installs from the add-on settings, and its pictures and links stay inside your store
  • a category without a picture shows a clean tile instead of a broken-image box
  • language switcher links got accessible names
  • the content of the shipped layouts is translated into every language of the theme
  • fixed the price filter slider and the product filters block on the category page
  • theme settings are grouped

6.01 fixes carousel pictures for stores with the HiDPI add-on (a lazy slide could show a broken picture), gives responsive sources to the single banner block, and makes scrollers keep their row while the page is still loading.

Both updates arrive through the Upgrade Center.
