SSL, Merchant & Gateway

I am confused about a couple of things:

SSL Certificate:

My hosting account has a shared SSL cert included. Does this mean I can enable these three options in admin panel?:

  1. Enable secure connection in checkout (SSL certificate is required to be installed on your server)
  2. Enable secure connection in administrator area (SSL certificate is required to be installed on your server)
  3. Enable secure connection for authentication, profile and orders pages (SSL certificate is required to be installed on your server)

Or do I have to purchase a personal SSL Cert to use these features?

    Merchant & Gateway Accounts:

I know I need to have a merchant account with a 1st party provider in order to accept credit cards on my site withOUT my customer being redirected to a 3rd party site to pay, correct? Do these also include Gateways or is that something else I need to obtain? Or does CS-Cart COME with a gateway??

    Thanks,

    Brenda

A shared SSL means you CAN turn on SSL, but I would advise against it. When a customer goes to checkout at your site www.yoursite.com and it goes to SSL the browser goes to something like this

https://ssl4.somesharedhost.com

As a consumer, I would not buy from a store who does this.

As for gateways w/o redirection, CS does not come with this and signing up for one of these can be a bit pricey. Paypal offers like Payments Pro

which allows the customer to stay at your site.

Ok, I understand. Thanks!
