Small design changes

Would we still have the option of a drop down selection box instead?

I do like the overall idea of what you’re doing with the quantity change arrows and I’ve seen similar functionality on other sites. I just want the option to not use it if I determine that my customers are not computer savvy enough to understand how to use it at first glance.

I think it should be an optional box in the admin to turn it on or off (if you aren’t using the drop down style). I also think it should be optional to have it on the product page and lists as well as the checkout. Perhaps separate check boxes in admin, one for the cart and one for lists.

I agree that it should be available but as an option for us to administrate for the various places a quantity box can appear. I also would want it in addition to the dropdown selection.

I think its cool, gets my vote, with admin selection of course.

John

Agreed. Make it available as an option controlled with a setting.

Bob

I agree the design is nice but it should be an option.
Hi!

Here is a small change to the design: now it is possible to change the product quantity in Cart items using the mouse. Above the Quantity field you will see an up arrow that increases the product quantity, beneath the field you will see a down arrow that decreases the product quantity.

You are able to see it on the Cart page in Labs.

I want to know your opinion on whether it is necessary to include it in the base functionality or whether we should make it a setting. Should we add this functionality to the product lists?

Hello Angel, I truly hope this is taken only as constructive criticism as that is my real intention, so here are my thoughts:

This is most likely the absolute last thing CS-Cart developers should be spending valuable time on! There are far more usability type issues & improvements that really need to be made versus fiddling around with how quantities are changed when adding products to the cart, the original method isnt broken, it is not confusing, and works absolutely fine! So, where is the benefit, yeah, it is “cute” having an up & down arrow to change the quantities, cute & nothing more!

Ok, now for the part of my post which most likely will be considered as constructive & useful:

If it were to be added, then I would prefer it to also be added in the other areas of the site where the product quantity select boxs were displayed, probably best to keep uniformity.

I would agree with Struck on this one…why, why, why?

I would not be so dismissive of this enhancement. From a usability view, if they were to also add this to the product list and the product details page, you could have a purely mouse-driven shopping experience until checkout. This is an advantage for people who dislike typing.

As far as whether the time would be better spent doing something else, I suspect that several of the recent small changes are the result of company-encouraged personal projects (https://www.hrtools.com/benefits_compensation/a_pet_projects_program_can_make_good_use_of_extra_time.aspx) in which case the trade-off is not having something else instead but rather having or not having a feature.

However, there is a difference in pursuing a personal project and pushing it out to your customers - the labs site gives customers a chance to try something new and provide their feedback. My feedback: it seems to not be working with Safari or Firefox on a Mac.

Bob

I like it. I think adding it as an option is great! Good work!

Struck I am not sure if you have inside knowledge of the team structure of cs-cart but I run software projects for my company. In our company we have a team dedicated to improving the website (aka enhancements) and then a team dedicated to fixing issues (aka break fixes). I am not saying this is the case with cs-cart as I have no idea of their structure, just playing devils advocate.

Angel,

I saw this change in labs. What I don’t like is that the “hand” cursor covers the quantity when increasing the quantity. You can’t see the numbers. I find this annoying. Maybe you need a - and + on either side of the quantity box.

I agree this would be better - like the “add products” dialog in the admin area for events. Except, place the ‘-’ to the left and the ‘+’ to the right of the amount box (and please fix this for events too).

I don’t understand. We currently have the option of a drop down selector for the quantity. I just want to make sure you are going to leave that in the cart as an option.

Or stack the up/down arrows immediately to the right of the product quantity box. The “hand” cursor obstructing the product quantity (when increasing quantity) is really annoying and unprofessional.

Bob

I like this function too! For me, I am all for the idea to have it as a selection to turn on/off in the admin appearance settings as mention by angel. I will surely turn it on if it is working fine, and fully tested with all major browsers. UI is a very important aspect of site especially if it is ecommerce based.

I think angel is in charge of UI and design within the cscart team from what I’ve observed. I don’t think she handles the logic/programming portion of cscart like zeke does. But it’s just my personal opinion. ^^

Anyway I am very happy to see cscart team participating so actively within the forum, esp for new ideas and implementation. (alexions’ thread is active with lots of constructive feedbacks)

All these idea exchanges should reduce the number of bug reports/complaints/conflicts/ etc when the implementation is officially launch. I hope cscart team will soon feel/reap the benefits of such exchanges. ^^
