Hello.
I know how to make a drop down boxes to select colors and to sizes. 1) Can I set one up and select something like “global” to have these boxes show up on every product in a category, so I don’t have to manually set them up for every single product? That would be so much easier! Thank you in advance.
Set up your options in Catalog->Global options. There is an “Apply to products” link at the bottom which will allow you to apply the option(s) to groups of products.

I think I am getting it.
So after I create the Global options, I have to select each product that it will apply to. I can’t just select the …say… “parent category” and have it apply to all of the sub-cat’s? That’s okay though.
Also, I a created 3 options - Size, Color & Width. “Size” & “Color” show up with a question mark but “Width” does not. Any idea why? I have attached a link to my page and thank you very much for your help! Stan

When you click the ‘Add products’ link after ‘Apply to products’, you will be able to search by category. Make sure you set ‘Total items’ to 100 so that you can minimize the number of pages you will need to go through.

Did you fill in the description on that option?
Bob
Got it now. Thank you very much. I guess I was hoping to not have the, say, “Color (?): even show up to the left of the drop down box as I have “Select a color” included it in my dropdown box” …example…
Select a Color (which will display)
Black
Tan
White
Really don’t need a description for Color, but there is nothing to describe, but probably no easy way to remove that text. Anyway, thank you very much Bob for your’ help. You really cleared that up for me.
Just looked at your site again and see that the ‘?’ shows up even when the description is empty. I wonder what is different about the 'Width" option.
EDIT: I just checked this and if you leave the description field empty, you should get no ‘?’.
Bob
I will try that. Cool. Thanks.
One more question (hate to keep bugging you).
If I make that change now, and apply it to that product, It seems to display the dropdown boxes twice (two sets). I thought it would just over write my original boxes.
The ‘Apply to products’ link simply automates the task of adding product options to products; there is no connection between product-specific options and global options unless your also check “Apply as link”.
I can think of two ways to help with this. If you know that you will never use the ‘Hidden’ status in your store, set new products that have options to ‘Hidden’ status. You can then use the advanced search option in the global options dialog to search for the hidden items and then apply your global options. You would then need to set the status to active which is easy to do in the mass product edit screen.
The other option is similar but you put your new products with options in a hidden category initially. Add your global options then use the product mass edit feature to move the products into their proper categories.

Perfect! Thank you for all your help! Stan
