Site Conversion To Https Require New Google Analytics Code And Configuration?

We've just completed the change over of our website from http to https and wanted to know if we needed to change our Google Analytics tracking number to a different one? I would assume we would need to since Google treats https as a different site than http.

Better to ask to be sure however. =)

If so, would there be any reason (assuming it were even possible) to run GA for both the http and the https version at the same time for extra visibility?

Thanks

I don't think you need to. http/https are protocols and are not part of the domain name or URI's.

Dear EpicCosplay,

Sure that there is no need to change the Google Analytics tracking number if you redirect http to https correctly.

If you do not make the redirection, google will think that your pages have doubles, that is not good for SEO.

Best regards, Alt-team.

You can use the same code even for different domains:

Thank you for the replies.

Everyone is right, no need to change GA numbers. But there is a property setting to make the https version the canonical which probably makes sense to flip on.
