Should I install v2.0.12 or wait for next update?

Hello,

I am putting together the plans to launch the store and I will be doing some decent amount of customizations to it. The customizations, although not final, will consist of mostly design and layout changes, including but not limited to changing the 3 column layout to 2, color changes, appearing of product listing on the main page and appearance of product listings on the category pages. Also, the product page itself.

I noticed that there are a lot of bugs that are waiting to be addressed such as emails not going out or 2 emails going out. Checkout issues in IE versions etc etc.

That’s a lot of important issues in my opinion. Often times the conversion ratio of checkout page can define a business’s success from failure. I can’t and don’t want to take that chance.

I am looking to get some guidance as to whether its worthwhile to wait for the next update or should I carry on with the current version and please provide some type of explanation to your response.

Thanks in advance!

I would suggest waiting. CS-Cart representatives have stated that version 2.0.13 will be out by mid-March - that is not far off. And I believe the release is near based on the surge in updates in the Bug Tracker on 3/4/10 - it seems to happen just before every release.

Bob

If that’s mid March which is next week, I might hold out for it as well.!

Just curious to know if the duplicate invoicing fix might be in this release.

Any way of finding out Bob?

The only guide to what is in the next release is the Bug Tracker. You can also check see if something is changed at labs.cs-cart.com but that does not always mean it is scheduled for the next release.

There is a suggestion in the UserVoice area that addresses this and some other order placement issues. You can vote for this and leave your comments at:

Strangely, for all the grumbling, this issue is quite far down the list. While I have voted for a number of the items above it on the list, I am surprised that this issue is not in first or second place. For instance, how valuable is multi-storefront capability when this issue still looms and multi-storefronts means you just have more opportunity to confuse customers and also to generate duplicate orders.

Bob

Too true Bob, can’t see this being used in a multi-store situation in its current state.

I have voted and hope we can get this to the top.

I might use a multi-store setup but it makes no sense to just offer another venue for duplicate orders (or shipping calculation problems, for that matter).

I find it interesting that the “Abandoned carts” idea has more votes when a significant number of the abandoned carts are probably caused by order placement problems. Yes, the abandoned carts mod is still needed (I voted for it) but it seems like the order placement problems should have a higher priority.

Agreed, and this is where the upper level mgmnt of CS-Cart will need to make a sound business decision (the ultimate decision) when determining what is next on the horizon, regardless of how many votes an idea receives.
