Shipping

not sure if im missing something but i am confused by the “shipping service” on the shipping method section. I want to set up shipping rates that are as low as possible and it requires me to use many different methods for each country. We ship world wide and basically only need to use ground or least expensive way. Any help??

You will need to set up different shipping methods.

The shipping service is where you set the specific service level (UPS Ground, UPS 3-Day, etc) when you are using realtime shipping rates. If you are going to manually set shipping charges, you will not need to use this.

In your case, you might have one shipping method for UPS Ground in the US and, maybe, UPS Europe: Standard for European deliveries. Or you might use USPS for shipping outside the US.

How does the system know what method to use? I am trying to set up Canada and cant seem to get it to use the canada UPS it wants to use Europe expidite as i have set for that region. I would be happy to have one setting each for usa, canada, europe, rest of the world but a gain, this stumps me.

Maybe this is a setting issue. I have been over the help forums and .PDF files for years and cant seem to get a conclusion on this one.

Also, how do i set the system up to use the box sizes listed on the product pages instead of automatically loading from the shipping settings?

Is it me or is this complicated?

Unfortunately, the current system does not support using different box sizes per product - you will need to select the most used box size. There is a request in the Ideas forum to add support for both dimensional weight and multi-box shipments. You should vote for it if these are important to you:

Make sure you set up your locations : USA, Canada, Europe, rest of world. Make sure you have no overlapping destinations in your locations. You will likely need to set up one additional location for tax purposes if you are in the US - again make sure there is no overlap in destinations between the general and tax locations.

Here is an example of what you could do - set up the shipping methods as follows (this is all based on real-time rates):

USA

====

UPS USA: Ground

Canada

======

UPS Canada: Standard

Europe

======

UPS Europe: Standard

The shipping methods offered to the customer will be selected based on the shipping address. If you have US address, only services available in the US will be offered to the customer. If you are setting up manual shipping, you will need to specify shipping charges for each of locations on the “Shipping charges” tab in Shipping Methods.

If you want to offer expedited delivery, you can add additional shipping methods (e.g., UPS USA: 2nd Day Air). A customer with a US shipping address would be offered both US methods.

Thank you bob, that helps. I will vote for it. It does seem strange that it is not offered. This cart is by far the most usful i have ever used, good looking, well thought out works fast and just a great value- I seems easier to just have the system use the product dimensions rather than one size fits all. But what ever-

OK, that was dumb of me-- After a serious misunderstanding in how this whole thing works, here is what i hope helps some other person.:

on the Shipping service section you use the “country” are you are shipping FROM, not were you are shipping TO. If shipping from the USA with UPS use:

UPS USA ******

I may be wrong but its working now for me that way.
