here is a setting (per product) to allow the item to be shipped combined or separate.
So is this setting set per product in the backend or just one checkbox that will tell the shipping calculator to either calculate the products combined or separate?
Yes, why not?
I figured as much, but I just had to ask. This mod sounds like it might work for me since my current one for 1.3.5.sp4 more than likely won’t work for 2.0, but I just need to know as much as I can before committing any money.

Both features are supported by the current version of SmartShip (for xcart).
We are beginning to get more bookstore orders and need to be able to escape the single packing freight problem…
Does the software balance packages according to weight, fill, volume or cost?
i.e.
Weight - balances shipment freight so that no package exceeds a given threshold.
Fill - fills each package sequentially to a set max weight per package
Volume - fills each package by dimensions to a fix freight dimension (less packing material margin), ignoring weight.
Cost - fills each package to the most economical weight for the given order
Hello Jagorny,
There is a “Feature Request” in the bug tracker related to this shipping downfall of CS-Cart, appreciated if you can also add your comments to the post.
We are going to implement SmartShip module for CS-Cart in February-March 2009
What ever happened to this mod?
We need this improved shipping functionality (of being able to split products ordered in bulk into multiple Fedex parcels) like “yesterday” and was just about to seriously look into hiring a custom coder for this!
I know there are several others here on the CS-Cart forums which are also quite interested & need this functionality for CS-Cart.
I read the details of this Smartship module for x-cart & it appears to be exactly what I have been looking for!
