Shipping 2 heavy items

Well I searched the forum and still don’t have an answer for this. Some of my items are heavy and I am trying to figure out a good way to provide a good shipping quote for them. The problem I am facing is with an item that wieghs 136 lbs. When I add one of these to my cart the shipping is fine, but when I add 2 of these the cart won’t figure out the shipping. Is there some way to make some items ship seperatly or how should I fix this problem?

You’ll find that shipping processors don’t ship above certain weight/size dimensions. I know my local (Australia Post) does not ship items over 20kg, hence you’re possible issue.

Take them in or jump online and get an estimate then add it to the cost dependancy area of your shipping. This will allow extra$$$ ie if it’s 50kg, $2 per Kg over 20 etc…

I plan on shipping all my products via UPS and they have a 150 lb weight limit I think and since this item I want to ship is 136 lb than that is why I can get the shipping to work for one of the items and not two. I would like to figure out a way to make it so that if there is too much weight in someone’s cart than the shipping would be split up. So basically:

1 - 136 lb = x

2 - 136 lb = 2x So basically 2 seperate packages

This seems like a thing I might need a mod built for because I don’t see any options on how to change this myself with my current knowlege of code. If you have any ideas I would really appreciate it though.

Brandon

I personally can’t see a way out of it without a mod,

I understand the dual packages method, it would be worthwhile to add the weight dependancy however, ie over 130lb’s (I think that’s 57Kg here) then add $25 to the postage.

Essentially your telling the cust the cost of shipping, the end point is you posting two parcels

Regardless, Gimme a mod anyday

Brandon-

This is a problem in CS-Cart (and X-Cart and many others). SunShop (and some others) solve this problem to some degree by allowing to specify that a product “Ships separately” (is not packed with other items) and/or “Maximum quantity per box” (the number of a particular item that can be boxed together).

If, and when, CS devs decide to address this, I hope they also allow for binding shipping methods to products (e.g, an item that must be shipped by a trucking company) and a means to require a shipping quote prior to finalizing the order. Some of this looks like it will be address with CS-Mall, where one could use different “vendors” to collect items that must be shipped by trucking company, for instance.

I aggree it looks like I might need to find out what cs can do for me. I have used Ecommercetemplates.com’ templates before and they allow the “ship packages seperatly” option. CS-Cart is deffinatly more powerfull, but the other cart had some nice features that I wish could be integrated with CS like the packaging options, dropshipping, and the gift certificates. I think the gift certificate problem is being worked on and there has been talk about the dropshipping so maybee I’ll check on the shipping options. I already am communicating with them for a product configurator mod so maybee they will give me a deal.

As for Jesse’s idea, I just don’t think it would work for me because of the huge range in shipping prices with UPS depending on where the package is being shipped to. If I can’t figure anything else out I might just have to use his suggestion and figure out a fair compromise. Thank you both for your help and if you have any more ideas I would love to hear them.

Brandon

You could always add a note to state that if the shipping is overvalued you can provide them with a gift certificate/voucher for use on their next purchase.

Again, it’s a waiting game. Customers usually respond to a token of honestly beyond normal practices.

This feature is a must need and I hope it will be included in cs-cart 2.0 as it claims that the best of all.

I don’t know if this will be included in 2.0 and honestly I doubt it will be. I do know that shippingkit is planning on having an addon that should take care of this. I ended up having a mod coded for me, but I am hoping that shippingkit’s addon will work the same.

A must is a must. If they wanna be the best among other carts, this feature is very critical for people to make a decision. It could be a sale or not problem.

Remember, no one wants to lose sales because of weight limit dumb problem!
