I run 2 websites - one with .com suffix and the other with .net suffix.
I would like to merge them into one website.
The problem is the .net is already SEO optimized and has MUCH more pages indexed comparing to the .com.
On the other hand - .com suffix is more acceptable and common, so I would prefer it to be under .com.
Does anyone know if I choose to redirect my .net to the .com - will I lose my SEO efforts?
Does anyone have any suggestions as for the best practice here?
- Go to your Webmaster Tools (Google)
- Choose your .net domain
- Go to > ‘Change of address > Tell us the URL of your new domain’
- Choose from the dropdown list your .com domain
- Make a 301 redirect of your .net domain in your .net account in .htaccess file
So, if I do these actions my SEO will not be harmed by the move?
The .com domain will get page rank of the .net domain. However, now you will have to optimize the .com site like the .net one.

Well, I am going to copy the .net into the .com so that work is supposed to be easy (I hope).
