Sales Tax appearing too early in Checkout

Hi,



I configured two sales tax possibilities (NJ and FL). When the user starts filling out his information in the checkout, sales tax for NJ (the home of the store) is being immediately applied to the order before the user has a chance to enter billing/shipping information. If the user is not from these states, he is not charged sales tax. I’d prefer that the sales tax did not show until it was clear the user is from one of these states. Suggestions?

Don’t know, but I have been concerned of the exact same situation, it should be the other way around in that no tax should be displayed in the checkout process until it is certain to be applied for the particular customer/order being placed!



I have had customers ask during the checkout “Why am i paying tax” and having to explain to them that they won’t see the tax after adding there address details.

In Design->Appearance settings, uncheck “Estimate taxes using default address on cart/checkout pages”.

There is no estimate taxes button. However, I just worked around this by removing the default address from the design->appearance section

That was the solution in previous versions before the checkbox was added. What version are you running?

Thanks Bob,

I had this option “unchecked” , however, taxes are still being displayed. I will try checking it, saving & unchecking to see if it changes the display.



I may have a specific file issue from a past upgrade or something.

I am running v 2.0.12. As far as i know i have the latest, my cs-cart is not alerting me to being out of date and i just did the upgrade that came out last week

Odd. This is what the customer settings area of Design->Appearance settings looks like for me:
