Safe transfer to another server

I am building a web-store over 2 months now with cs cart and siteground…

and i have a few questions.

Site ground offers a semi dedicated server for 3Months for 87$

So if the website stays there is there any danger if the website starts and have a lot of traffic?

Is there another site takes care to transfer the current shop cart to avoid any further issues if i decide to transfer it?

If I were you, I’d move the shop to another host like Futurehosting, Wiredtree, etc. (also depending on where your customer base is located. See other topics about hosting.)

Take a managed hosting package, so you can email support with any questions you might have at any time.

They will also move the shop for you and in the long run you’ll probably be much happier. Heard too many bad stories about siteground here.

What is your current traffic? Do you have any experience with an umanaged server? And sorry, semi dedicated = VPS… is it managed, or unmanaged?

As for if VPS is managed or unmanaged i am not sure what you mean

Basically: if you get an unmanaged VPS / semi dedicated server (it’s the same), you should know what you’re doing. Otherwise you’d be stepping into an F16 without knowing what the joystick is for. (Yes, I know I’m opening the door here for silly jokes).

Since you’re new, this doesn’t seem like an option.

So either you should get:

  • a good hosted account, with enough power to run your shop. This way the server will be configured already, you won’t have to be afraid of security issues, etc

  • a managed VPS. Expect a slight learning curve there though. Good thing is, since it managed, it will be setup for you and you can ask anything you want from support (well, they won’t make you coffee).

Since you’re just starting and it might take a while before your shop becomes busy, I advice you to go with the first option. You can always upgrade later.

Martfox has some good deals and I know there are happy customers here. They also helped me out in the passed with a CS issue when I still had no idea what I was doing. They know a lot about CS-cart and response was fast and pro-active. Always a good sign.

This http://www.martfox.com/ecommerce-semi-vps.php seems like a sweet deal to me. I know they will also install or move your current installation without any costs, and Indy and Martfox are both around on the forum here.

Should you decide to go with a managed VPS, I can recommend Nexcess | Managed Hosting for Magento, WordPress & More → an amazing price for a high spec, managed VPS. I run my shop here and it’s been great so far.

Both these hosts have European and US based servers. It’s always a good idea to take one that’s closest to your customer base. Usually closer = faster = happier visitors.
