i am setting up a new store with reward points and i was testing it to see how it works, i noticed 1 critical bug that must be fixed b4 i go live and 1 possible issue
issue = user gets free reward points for spending a gift certificate (the person buying the gift certificate gives the reward points to the person receiving the gift certificate)
EXAMPLE:
a)person receives a gift certficate for “free” from someone,
b)he then uses gift certificate
c)he gets the reward points on the items he got for “free”
d)person buying the gift certificate gets no credit for spending money
**
as there is no double issuing of points, this is not a bug,
but more of a possible issue on who actually earned the points
this is critical bug with you giving away free stuff to those who didnt earn it… if you are using the reward system…surprise no one else has chimed in on this…and still no response in bug tracker… reward system is worthless untill this is fixed as im not about to give away my hard earned money to people who didnt earn the points
I use the reward point system but don’t track it that closely… but I do get people complaining about not getting their reward points from time to time. Somehow they disapear or never get added at all… definatly something buggy about this system.
Just wanted to let you know I submitted this bug via the support ticket system as it will affect me. I just gave out $10 in points to about 1000 people and I’m sending out a newsletter this evening to about 33,000 people.
The response back from CSC was the following:
Thank you for providing the access information.
It looks like a bug. We are investigating the problem. We will contact you as soon as possible.
Thank you.
I’ll post back here with an update as soon as I receive the solution.
they get points for the item they pay for then when they redeem the points to buy something: say it cost 100 points and they only use points(100 points) to buy the item
=they pay nothing for the item, as it was free when they used their reward points
bug= they will then receive reward points on the purchase as if they paid for it with money, but they did NOT spend any money, they only used points
so it turns they got the item for free and then got more bonus points
example:
reward points earned = 10 points per $100 dollars spent (or a 10% reward bonus)
products cost 1 reward per dollar to redem
a)they spend $1000 on the first order and earn 100 reward points
b)they come back
-item cost $100.00 dollars or 100 reward points
-they buy the item using their 100 reward points
c)they then receive 10 reward points for spend their reward points
=this is the issue, you just gave away free money
they didnt spend anything to get the reawrd points
Ok, so what you’re saying is it basically gives 110% out since you spend them and earn another 10%?
But yet today I’m still getting users complaing about not getting rewards… do products have to specifically be flagged to EARN the customer points like they are flagged to be allowed to be bought by points?

Products do not need to be specifically flagged to earn reward points.
Is it possible that you have overridden the global values by checking “Override global point value for all products in this category” or “Override global/category point value for this product” in your categories or products, respectively? If you checked this setting and left the default values at 0, no rewards would be given for the associated product.

No, I highly doubt that… I just checked the CATALOG / REWARD POINTS link it says 100 for USER GRUOP ALL and 0 for guest and 0 for registered. I wonder if this just stopped working right when they added usergruops which mucked up a lot of things. I’ll set Guest and Registered to 100 as well and see if that helps.
Under the ADDON when I pull it up in edit, all the boxes are checked and Point Exchange Rate is set to 50 and the “several applied” is Minimal and Log is 10 lines.
CSC have corrected this bug. They applied the correction to my development site and based on initial tests has corrected the problem. I’ve asked them to post the exact code changes. Once I get those, I’ll update the BUG report. Interestingly the bug fix they posted to that ticket only indicated changes to one file. Whereas, the one they did for me made changes to three files…hmmm.
It might depend on whether “If the product and the product category do not have defined reward points but the higher level category has such reward points, extract data from it:” setting in the Rewards points add-on setup. You should test to see if this makes a difference. Still, I think that if you enter “0” (as opposed to null) on the product, there should be no reward points for that product.
You should report this as a bug in the Bug Tracker:
