Hi,
We're currently using Magento and find that we're often struggling with performance issues and high resource usage – driving us to upgrade to high-end VPS or even dedicated hosting plans.
We do sell a lot of products (~5k), bit they're all small, rather inexpensive items so we don't make a substantial amount of income from our site, and upgrading to expensive hosting plans hurts us.
Is CS-Cart better in this area than Magento?
Thanks!
One of my sites was originally using Magento, which I converted to CS-Cart and kept the same design. I have the 'archive' site and the current site running on the same server, with the same graphics and custom CSS combined with the standard Magento CSS/template files and CS-Cart CSS/template files respectively.
There are no differences between the sites except the cart architecture.
The site comparison stats are as follows:
Magento
Page Load Speed: 4.85s
Page Size: 1.69mb
Number of Requests: 68
CS-Cart
Page Load Speed: 3.18s
Page Size: 942kb
Number of Requests: 60
I believe those statistics speak for themselves.
Ditch Magento like your crazy ex-gf. Even if you have the right developers, it's a PITA to get working and upgrades are NOT fluid.

Nothing in the World is 'free'. Magento don't offer free support, but they have got a huge community forum. The community here is growing. CS-Cart support is one of the cheapest options I have experienced with shopping cart software. For the price you pay for the software and the support combined with the functionality, CS-Cart is, for me, the best cart around.
