Produc option image thumb click for larger image?

I have images setup with global product options linked to products. The thumbnails are really small and they only update the drop down select box on click. Is there a way to have them update the main product image when clicked so people can view a larger image of the product option? I really need customers to see a larger image. The thumbnails are 50 pixels wide and looks like it’s hard coded into the template. Does anyone know how I can get these thumb to swap the product image onclicK or popup a large image of the product option?

This would be an addon. That said, I believe a previewer can be attached to the options image.
