Prevent indexing of entire website?

I know this may be an odd request, but how can I temporarily prevent search engines from indexing my site? The reason I'm asking is because my cs-cart site is currently running on a development URL as I'm working to complete it (while my existing site is running on my actual domain).

I've been in development for a few months now, so the site is starting to get indexed. But under my hosting's temporary domain (www66.a2hosting.com/.../…) which is no good. I need to stop this.

I know I have to modify the robots.txt file, but I'm not quite sure what to change to prevent the entire site from being indexed at its current URL. P.S. Once the site is completed and ready to go “Live”, I'll change the domain to my indended one and then allow search engines to start indexing my pages under the correct URL. (So this is just a temporary thing I need done)

So any advise would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

Hello, hptmotor!

Please add the following lines to your robots.txt file:

User-agent: *

Disallow: /

It must work!
