We changed our store to use only PayPal as the checkout method. Now orders from whithin our own state are failing but payments come through. These orders are the only ones being taxed. The error is: “The paid total amount does not match the order total”.
Can anyone help me figure this out? Thanks in advance.
Bump.
You can't expect a response within four hours even less with a bump

We had this same issue and the only way we could get it resolved was to go to…
Profiles >> under the “Hosted payment settings” I had to choose “VAT” which is for all taxes and not just VAT. Then I found where I had set up for Paypal to charge Ohio tax. So when our CS shopping cart charged taxes and then Paypal tried to charge it too there would be an error because the totals did not match. Once I took out the Ohio tax on Paypal it works fine now and we do not get the errors any more.
So basically, there was nothing wrong with CS-Cart and there is nothing CS support can probably do. You will probably need to log in to your Paypal account to make the changes.
Baiscally your cart and Paypal together is charging customers tax twice. CS shopping cart would charge tax at checkout and then the Paypal system would add it again when the customer paid. I guess before the two systems didn't try to match up the information. Now Paypal and your shopping cart must be communicating and that is where the error is because of the extra tax that was charged on Paypal.
On Paypal just listing it as VAT thing, this is one of those strange things that Paypal does that doesn't make much sense. Why they don't at least put VAT/TAX is beyond me. It took me a while to figure out where it was because we don't have VAT in the US.
Hopefully this will help you too.
