I allow adding out of stock items to the cart (buy in advance option) and paying for them. These orders receive the "Open" status. Shouldn't they be set as "back-ordered"? Am I doing something wrong?
No, this status is used for other purposes
Backordered—the order hasn’t been processed yet, as it contains out-of-stock items.
The "buy in advance" items are not taken into account here
