Options that only appear when other options are selected

Long description, I know. Looking for a way to make certain options to become visible, only when other options are selected.

For instance, you select, you check one option - indicating you want it - and then a second option appears.

IE:

Do you want to add [?] - “Checkbox” = YES

-----> Dropdown Menu: A or B

Yes that will be cool!

Agree this would be nice feature

This feature is also needed by people who sell personalized products and for basic gift wrapping options. Here are a few real-world examples:
A site offers a gift wrap option; the gift message is displayed and always active even if the customer does not choose the gift wrap option.

A jewelry site offers engraving. As above, the engraving text is always active even if the customer does not purchase the engraving option.

Another forum member sells cake toppers. She offers an option to purchase a display base which allows entry of two lines of text (2 text fields). Unfortunately, those fields are always active even if the customer purchases no base to display them on.
In each of the above examples, you treat all options as having equal status which is incorrect (the text fields are dependent on a parent option being chosen). You should not even be presented with these child options until the parent option is chosen.

Displaying unavailable or inappropriate options just causes confusion with the potential for a customer to feel they were cheated out of something.

You can vote for this feature in the Ideas forum:

Bob,

Thanks for putting this idea and the others you have done recently, on the ideas page. I especially need this request. I do have personalized products and this would eliminates some confusion. The problem is I have been out of votes since the second day the Idea page went up.

Yeah, the lack of votes is frustrating. There are a lot of ideas I would like to vote for.

On the other hand, you don’t really want to give people too many votes; instead of having a lot of ideas bunched up around some number, you end up with a lot of ideas bunched up around some higher number. It is the scarcity of the votes that forces us to choose between “want” and “need” and which causes the ideas to stratify.

Perhaps they can increase the number of votes each person has now that there are so many more ideas in the system.

If this is concerning product options than it could be achieved via the product property “option type”, you should set it to sequential.

This functionality only available since version 2.1.x

Yes It is avaialble in 2.1 but would they are only greyed out.

Would it be possible for the extra options only to be invisible comletely until the previous option in selected.

Damn, this is exactly what i need. But it must working with all fields like Text fields too. Because when i have many option field where the customer must fill out this fields (in my case rund about 3 dropdowns and 20 Textfields) the option list will be very very long. And the description is far away from the top. Is a big problem for me :frowning:
