Option that adds to the price; but only once.

Essentially I have an option where I can either ship the item as the customer ordered it or they can get emailed a “proof” before I ship. If I send them the proof, I need to charge a minimal amount as they can make changes as many times as needed.

The problem I am having is the customer will be charged for the proof as many as the quantity ordered if I set this up as an option. So if they order 5, then they will be charged for 5 items AND 5 proof where they only need to be charged for one. I suppose I could set this up as a second product but then there would be issues if they ordered several different designs so I'd like to stay integrated into the product. Anyone have any ideas how to accomplish this?

Fast,

Just some quick thoughts that may have absolutely $0.00 value! :D

It appears the most flexible way to do this would be to create a second product as you referred to, something like “Design Proof”, etc.

I am thinking that if this product includes a text field, then you could request your customers to specify which of your products the Proof is needed for.

In your situation there may be benefit in using the “Buy Together” addon ??

Ah ha! The “buy together” I think is exactly what I’m looking for. Unfortunately I have problems with the backend loading all my products when trying to find the second product. Always something…find a solution to one problem, only to be stopped with another problem. :(

Well I got it to add the products but “Buy Together” won't work for my stuff. Essentially my products prices are recalculated depending on the options the customer chooses. With “buy together” it seems it only works off the “set price” so the total doesn't work out properly. I may just have to do without the add-on since I don't see how to get it to work.

Im in the same boat too, I was just in the process of having radio options set to add ££ to certain products for express service, didnt think about it adding one for every product !!! duh. Does the buy together work OK except for the price recalculation thing then ?

It would seem to work okay though it may get overlooked. It is in the tabs for “related products”, “tag”, etc. So you may want to put something in the description so the customer actually looks for it. Otherwise the customer may never see it.
