I still have alot of older links before upgrade to 1.3.5 sp4 for example

you see it goes to current page which now is
www.mysite.com/tool-easyclean-pump.html
How do I make the old links that are high ranked in Google forward to and my current site without the error message, can I add a code to my index.php and all of old links are sitting in the older /catalog/ directory

The simplest would be to add to the .htaccess file on the server a list of all old URLs and the new ones:
Redirect 301 /old/page.html /new-page.html
This is not the most elegant solution, but it’s simple and quick (till you find somethign better :))
I tried this but everything went haywire or I did something wrong, show me how it shold look in the file itself and do 3 different links as examples so I can see what I did
