Here's a strange one ... we just upgraded to MVE 4.9.1 and we're getting a string of numbers at the top left of every page. I want to remove them but I've no idea where these are coming from. Can someone clue me in please?

Seems like some piece of code echoes it, or it has been randomly put in the index.tpl file.
So, first check: '/app/design/[theme]/index.tpl' for 123123123.... If it isn't there, I suggest you contact me via info@poppedweb.com

Or search your site for that string. Most likely an addon you've installed has an error that has that string outside the php tag.
