New PC Store, Converted with Store Manager

Finished the conversion using store manager, as you can see this software does work, most of it was done using the resolved part of the program, this is where you manualy adjust the code.

Not quite finished but a good 65% done. Using mods from SWS, NWSO and my own mods. :stuck_out_tongue:

I’ve only had a quick look at the store manager and it looks like a handy app, but is it just a fancy file comparison tool like [url]ExamDiff - The freeware visual file compare tool

I used a program similar to this for my last upgrade.

Out of interest, how long did it take you? and what sort of mods do you have? I ask because I have a lot of mods as well as template changes, I was considering getting CS to do the upgrade for me but if I can save some money it would be nice!

Hi recedo

It took me about 2 hours, but the program is more than just a fancy comparison app, comparison apps would not be able to upgrade your cart as this does.

This is an FTP, Backup, Comparison and more in one.

Most of the mods i re-installed for this version, as far as the templates are concerned it all depends on the extent of change and the way it has been done, but most of it, if you know your way around smarty and html can be done there and then with the store manager.

But if your not sure then the best people to do the upgrade are the creators of the cart software.

Hello again, thanks for the reply. I have one other question if you don’t mind…

Does the utility backup custom sql tables/fields? Well, I mean does it back up the whole database or just the cs cart stuff? Obviously with some mods you will need to add/change the database.

TIA

Simon

Hi recedo

To be honest i think that it only works with its own database, i have just had a look at the backup directory in store manager and see know sql backups for the store.

I feel more comfortable with diff and manual SQL-backups than relying on a graphical GUI that you can’t control.

Use Navicat and Beyond Compare and you can do exactly the same stuff, but more control over the exact changes.

I am as well so hopefully they will never force us to use this app in the future.

Nearly every store is modified at least to some small extent so this application will be an ongoing headache for most everyone who either uses it or has to help those who have and failed.

Thanks for the input.

Not sure which path I’ll take yet. I think its probably best left to the pros as they know their code (and they did the mods) better. However I’ve heard a bit of a horror story on here. Plus if updates are going to be a regular thing I’d prefer to be used to updating myself rather than relying on someone else to do it.

Maybe I’ll back up and try this one myself first to see how it goes.

Thanks again

Simon

Exactly. I hope they will keep the manual upgrade files for new releases even if they have the store manager working. I hate to be forced to use something I do not need or want.

Great job!
