New Idea With SSL Seal

For some odd reason RapidSSL is one of the only places that does not have a clickable verification of the ssl certificate. I modified the code of verisign’s layout and am thinking of using it on my site.

What are your thoughts of this? Does it make users feel more comfortable with the security level of my site?

Also, as long as everyone likes the idea I could use some help uploading it to the https side of my site.

Here it is:

Thanks!

This is like an extremely odd topic.

  1. Are you sure you are concentrating on a relevant issue?

  2. Do you know of any customers who did not or will not be satisfied with a regular ssl cert?

  3. Do you think that a fake verification will bring more good than bad?

Do people really hover over and click on the site seals? I personally don’t think so. I honestly don’t know if a site seal makes a difference. I know I’ve talked to my family and friends and none of them even know what the site seals are and the especially don’t know what http and https are.

As for making it secure, the Comodo seal I use came with the code to put it on my site. When I added it, it made my site unsecure in https. All I did to make it secure is change the code a little bit. Basically where there was a http I changed it to https. I don’t know if this is the best way, but it works.

Hope that helps some,

Brandon

Then I suppose I won’t go through with it. Thanks for the input.

I do, I’m 23yo and spend more “free cash” online so it’s important that I’ve got a contact to call and complain to if required :stuck_out_tongue:

Then, is this a good idea? Should I use it?

There are so many differing opinions and so much information on site seals that it can be information overload. The “seal” companies (McAfee, HackerSafe, TrustGuard, etc.) insist that (for a monthly fee) their seals will increase your conversion rate. The SSL companies tell us that we need to buy EV-SSL (for around $500) to be a “safe” online business. BBB says you need their seal to be a “legitimate” business. The list goes on and on. However, if your business is a member of a trade organization that relates to the products you sell, that means something to me and is a good seal or banner to show.

Like Brandon, I rarely click or hover on a seal. What’s more important to me (and I am going to go off topic here) is that the site has a professional look and I feel and that I can trust the company behind the site to properly process my CC and deliver what they promised. How do I “feel” that? I think that’s personal opinion. I have never, and will never, purchase from a company that throws up a site with the standard CS-Cart, or X-Cart, or OS-Commerce, or Volusion, or Whatever-Cart skin. If their site looks like **** then I assume (right or wrong) that since they don’t care too much about their business, why should I? Putting up an e-commerce site is so much more than laying down $285 for a shop cart, getting a shared host, and putting some products up for sale, but so many e-commerce businesses just don’t get that. If they don’t have a clearly visible phone number, I won’t buy. If I don’t see an “About Us” page, I won’t buy. If I don’t see a Privacy Policy or Terms, I wont buy. If I see that their copyright still says “2005-2009”, I won’t buy. If they have a blog but haven’t updated it in a year, I won’t buy.

I’m sure I can find ten people who will say they’ve had good experience with sites I think are amateurish and that not everyone has $5000 to get a decent looking site up and running. That may be true, but for me, I don’t care as they are a click away from moving on to another site.

Having read your post, I will not mess with the click-able seal. Now having said what you’ve said, I couldn’t agree more with how the look of a site correlates to my willingness to use it. This is exactly what I was hoping to gain from my other discussion thread (http://forum.cs-cart.com/showthread.php?t=16992), tips on improving the look of my site.

Considering I have a very slightly modified stock skin, what suggestions would you make as far as a color scheme or design ideas that would improve it’s look?

Thanks,

Zack
