New Data Feeds Questions

I have a few questions about the data feeds addon:

  1. There doesn’t seem to be any link field (which make it pretty much useless) as there is in the Google Base export, is this intentional or an oversight?
  2. The image fields output the image as an absolute path to a backup folder similar to the way the normal export works, should the images export a URL which points to the actual location of the product image?

Apart from that I am very impressed by this addon, it’s going to make dealing with shopping comparison and affiliates much easier!!

    Cheers,

    John

For the data feeds option, I think they needed to get this out for everyone before the holidays, so it may not be perfect. As far as the link field, I think they are just expecting you to upload it yourself. Not sure though.

For # 2, yeah I have to agree with you, this I believe, was a complete oversight. Does anyone know if this can be fixed using some sort of script or job before downloading the feed?

I genuinely think that they have just been missed off by mistake, we have the option to upload directly to an FTP server, so the file should upload as a complete finished file, links and all.

This will also help me greatly with my migration from osCommerce (don’t fancy hand typing 301 redirects into my htaccess for every product!)

#2 there is a work around. On data feeds addon → general tab → Images directory: put http://www.yoursite.com/images. In this case you should have URL to your image

As for #1 this, at this point is useless, as far as ftp upload is concerned, however there is a workaround too (note this is only if you are using SEO addon).

data feeds addon → Fields mapping ->Product URL → SEO name. You have to download exported file, and preppend Product URL with actual url and append .html.

At least something
