Hi all,
At the weekend I finished the new add-on. I called it “Drag&Drop products”. You can guess from this name that someone can drag products and drop them somewhere.
So, this add-on makes your store more web2.0 than before.
Download it at http://alexions.dev.cs-cart.com/download/dd_products.rar
And install it. That’s all. Open any category page and you’ll see a half-transparent “cart” icon in the upper right corner.
If the selected layout allows adding products to the cart (namely, it has the Add to cart button), hover mouse over any product, hold the left button and move this product to the new cart icon.
The product will be added.
Please, let me know your opinion about the add-on.
Thank you and wish you all the best!

To me files must be missing. There is only one called “dd_products” no extension.
Tried adding it to the addons folder anyway and nothing happened.

Oh, thanks for the note. For some strange reason our server returns the bad TGZ content. Repacked it to the RAR format. Please, try again.
P.S. links in the my first message were updated.
Thank you and wish you all the best!
Does it work with latest cart only ?
Is there a demo of how this is used?
What a great idea. A demo would be awesome.
Thanks.
That works great. I haven’t looked at the code, but can the placement of the basket be changed? Can text be added so that people know to drag the products over?
This is a pretty cool addon and I know that it was something that was discussed quite a bit a couple of years ago.

It’s not a bad idea, however, to be honest, the “Add to Cart” button has become ubiquitous. I’m not sure joe schmoe clients are ready for drag and drop shoppng. That said, I would make it clearly and unavoidably obvious that you should drag the item to the cart. Well, that’s my opinion.
I like the addon but I think it would be better if you could just drag n’ drop it into the regular cart area:
The regular add to cart area isn’t placed in a good place in most themes. Most people expect in the upper right hand corner of the theme. I wouldn’t like a drag and drop in the upper left corner.

Mine isn’t in the top left either but I guess I meant it should drop to wherever the cart is on the page. Example if the cart is placed in a sidebox then it should be dropped to the sidebox - Sno

Unfortunately, yes. Only the latest version (2.1.x) has all the necessary hooks.

I’ve installed the latest trunk version here: http://alexions.dev.cs-cart.com/demo
and installed the new add-on. So, open any category page (like: http://alexions.dev.cs-cart.com/demo/index.php?dispatch=categories.view&category_id=111) and you will see the mini cart icon. Pick up any product and drop it to the cart.

At this moment, not. But, the add-on is under development, so, it can be added if you need. Let me know how it should work.

Yes! You are absolutely right! Most of the customers prefer the button. For this reason only this add-on does not delete this button. If you want, click the button, or drop the product to the cart by dragging it. Two ways are possible.

When the first idea of this add-on occured to me, I thought about this place. But when I opened the first category page, I saw about 10 products, scrolled down and the default cart icon went out from the screen. So, the cart icon should always be in sight.
Thank you and wish you all the best!
I got 24" screen, cart appear on far right and is hardly seen. I think it is not good place for it. Maybe bottom left placement would be better?
would it drag product options across also?
John
alexions on the category page you provided you have one item (the movie Hostage) that is out of stock. If you try to drag this item it shows the green plus on the cart image but then does not add the item to the cart(which it shouldn’t since it is out of stock as it doesn’t have add to cart button and not backorderable), so shouldn’t the cart show a red ‘X’ in this case to let the user they can’t add this item to the cart? If you do let it go in the cart nothing happens. At the very least a message should come up to let the user know this item is out of stock and was not added to the cart. The red ‘X’ though to me seems like the best idea.

This is part of my problem with it as well. I use a 23 inch screen and the cart is so far to the right that you really don’t notice it.

How about having the cart in either a block … or in the header, maybe. I’d look through some ideas and get opinions on usability.
I do not mean to hijack this thread, but I am very disappointed that cs-cart has spent time working on such a useless feature when other portions of the cart are in much more need of work.
- Speed
- Product Configurator needs a total overhaul
- Buy Together needs a total overhaul.
The drag and drop cart is cute for selling the cart to web developers, but basically worthless to customers.

It’s his weekend bro, he can do what he wants

He said he finished over the weekend. He does not state how long he has been working on it. In my opinion, he represents cs-cart and as a developer he could of spent this time more wisely.
Please let’s not linger on this topic. That was not the intent of my post. I was just hoping they could start working on more important features.
