So I started a project a while back with 1.3.5 and never quite got around to finishing. I've now decided to pursue this little adventure but my updates are way behind. I know I will need to update my license but how hard is it going to be to upgrade? I have some other CS stores but they are fairly well up to date so I have never done such a large jump in versions.
Thankfully the store never went officially live so if things don't go perfect on the upgrade it won't be the end of the world. But obviously looking for things to go as smoothly as possible. Really about the only thing on the site that needs to be preserved is the SEO friendly URLs since they have been in place for a few years now. With there only being about 20 of them I'm wondering if a fresh install would be easiest and then just manually add the categories again to have the same URLs? Other than that there isn't hardly any content…I never even added an official logo to the site. Open to suggestions.
In your case I would not even consider going thru the upgrade process across that many releases, start from scratch with a fresh install, in the end it will be far faster & far less prone to errors across the multitude of upgrades.
I am a firm believer in that it is always best to start from scratch unless you have alot of work already in place to preserve.

You should be able to export your products which will at least give you a good start on the data.
