Lets talk about the carts speed

Okay, so been reading alot of threads and also had a super slow cart…

I add Smartoptimizer and simply changed the php.ino memory limit from 32M to 128M and also made the change in the confog.local file to reflect the same new value.

Apart from that is the anything else that can be done to make my cart and also everyone elses super dooper fast?

Also since if have changed the memoryy limit to 128M I take it that if I install another cs cart on the same server I should then make the memory to 256M?

Currently I am on cs cart 2.0.11 and on a new dedicated dual processor server.

Thanks

No point to change memory limit to 256MB if you’re on a shared server with 32MB limit.

There’s already a thread about it. No point to start a new one, but let me tell you what to do without tweaking it much.

Go with VPS or dedicated server in your country. Managed one!

Use SEF URL in your CS installation [static HTML pages]

Save all pictures to files [if on CS1.3.5]

Have all pictures of products in JPG / 72dpi

Uninstall all Modules you don’t need

Disable Statistics mod if you don’t need it [great speed improvement]

Optimise your DB on a weekly basis

Install Smartoptimizer and understand how to configure it

Enable GZIP compression [if not done yet]

Do not overload your Home page with rubbish

Think, if you really need all blocks to appear everywhere

Avoid having banners from slow websites

Keep to minimum stuff on SSL pages. It’s already slow.

and so on… Good luck.

I’m going to eat something.

Hello

Thanks for the advice

I am based in UK but bought m,y server in USA simply because my experience with UK companies has been awefull however when my buisnesses grow I will definetly get a server in the UK most probably with Rackspace or Ukfast.

I tried US servers for 3y, but then moved back to the UK. Apparently, your search engine ranking will be much lower due to your website’s IP coming from outside the UK. If you sell to UK customers, this could affect it. No clue if this is true, but after bringing it back, my website is now much higher.

Do you believe that IP plays a role in the SERP as you mention above?

Welcome back Lee

I read about it somewhere and tried to find it again, but don’t have much time now. Will try again later.

I’d be curious to know this as well. I know that Google is big on the “localization” thing, but since I am only online, and my host in in Dallas, if people search for products I sell in my zip code, would I not show up in the results? What if my VPS was in the UK? I looked for any articles on this but couldn’t find any.

I have bigger SEO issues than this, but would appreciate any info you can provide.

Hello All,

I asked the question because:

1 - All my sites are in French language, for the French market

2 - All my sites are hosted in the USA

3 - All my sites have American IPs

4 - All my sites have mixed TLDs in “dot com” and “dot fr”

5 - All my sites are #1 on search engines on more or less competitive requests (from ten thousands to some millions competitors) in French language (Google.fr, Bing.fr, Yahoo.fr, etc …)

From my experience, the location of the IP and SERPs affect a very light weight in determining SERPs.

Otherwise, how to be #1 on French market with American IPs with both mixed TLDs “dot com” and “dot fr”?

Indy, reading these articles tells me that hosting in your country may be very important for rankings especially in the future with Google Caffeine.

We are US based and sell products that we can only shipped to the US. We are on shared hosting with your company (Martfox) and will move to VPS once we go into production.

I’d like your honest answer to this question. Since we are US based and sell only to the US, is it going to hurt us when we move to Martfox VPS since that hosting is UK based?

We do have this planned for the future but is probably a month or so away yet. If you move to our reseller platform you should be fine for a while as we’ve not noticed anyone using excessive resources and you could upgrade when we have the US VPS servers available.
