Is Basic Search Just A Dog Out Of The Box.

3.0.6

After a long while I forgot how bad basic search was so I added the search block again.

No sort by relevance.

Picks up on all individual words or characters in search term.

I can't see how it was ever useful in the first place.

Example:

country road size 12

will generate a non-sorted ( by relevance ) list of every

listing that contains country, road, size, 1 & 2

Why is it so bad ??

Am I missing some tweeking ?

It appears that 2.2 and 2.1 had a configurable search box.

Is Searchanise now free or just a free ( trial ) ??

Unfortunately there is no ability to sort search results by relevance. You can only sort by

  • timestamp
  • position
  • name
  • price
  • popularity
  • bestselling

The mentioned Quick search add-on is not a part of the CS-Cart package anymore

As for the searchanise, you can find all conditions here

    Thanks

Not that that even matters, when using the basic search it returns, everything everytime. Useless. We killed searchanise after the holiday malware disaster and now we have just built our own search in house which works about 5000 times better.

What's the word on Searchanise at the moment is it safe to turn their addon back on, just curious.

Are you planning on selling this ?

We decided to test out Searchanise late last year, about 2 weeks into trial there system got hacked. This then fed down to users site in the form of a Google stopping all ad words.

This was about 2 weeks prior to Christmas, luckily not our busiest time of year, however it still took 48 hours to get our ads back on, we will never use Searchanise again.

The inbuilt search tool is as stated very poor and almost a waste of time, have started to look around for a new search tool.

Once again CS Cart seems to have given lots of tools and features in the earlier versions to get people hooked in and then slowly but surely removed them and pushed to a paid alternative. However in the searchanise case they have failed to build a secure service that helps clients sell more instead it exposes their clients to risks they have no control over. A simple we are sorry post or tweet is not really enough a better way to say sorry would have been some months free.

Nice search box at your site. Is it a saleable mod ?
