Introducing A New Prototype—Product Variations (A Better Implementation Of Product Option Combinations)

Really great and usefull improvements! Waiting of update.

Really great and usefull improvements! Waiting of update.

Did you try it?

Would like to hear you thoughts on this feature.

Some small suggestions:

1.Rather than generating meaningless CODES for each variation, Id like to see the codes generated from the variant name.

Eg,

33p6kie.jpg2. Instead of the SEO name being just /apparel/mens-clothing/t-shirt/ is it possible for it to be appended to in the same way , eg: /apparel/mens-clothing/t-shirt-small-black.

Editable once generated of course as this may not suit all situation.

3. Perhaps the "Price" and "List Price" fields should be shown as "Edit" linking to the PV page once the PVs are generated.

Good to see that the Option modifier is still added to the PV price/weight.

So with all the suggested functions in this thread, its like each Product Variant is a different product.

Maybe a "Extras" dropdown so it can all be done from the existing screen

How do you add variations to an already existing product? Will we have to recreate all of our products to support this feature?

Right now features are related to base product not variation. If you implement features so that every single variation might have different values than it might work. I'm only afraid that because of the complexity of such an architecture it will take you another few years to implement this (this already happened during cs-cart dev history).

Product name + option combination name

It would be best if we could define per option if we want to prefix/suffix option name in variation name.

1. Because it is related with variation e.g. I have a red t-shirt in stock and I want my customers to know that I will ship it within 24 hours. I also know that my supplier has available green t-shirt in his stock and it usually takes us 72 hours to ship this item.

If customer adds red t-shirt to basket and green t-shirt to basket I want to let him know (on checkout and cart page) that his order will be ship within 72 hours (Max value from items shipping times).

So this feature should cover this scenarios and it should be able to set it via API:

1) Product/Variation is in my stock (phisically) and I want to track inventory (default shipping time value is applied)

2) Product/Variation is not in my stock but it is in my supplier stock - I don't wan't to track inventory but I want to set specific shipping time

3) Product/Variation is in my stock (1 pice) and is in my supplier stock inventory. Customer purchases 2 pices. On checkout and cart page he is informed that the shipping time is the specific shipping time for this item (not default value)

Maybe something changed on the demo, but as far as I can tell, features aren't just locked to the base product. You can create a feature and change it for the base product and all of its variations.. Which would also flow onto the GTIN being able to be customized for each variation.

I use a custom script for the data feeds, so I probably don't have the same hassles as those using the Data Feed addon and it probably won't take much effort to get the individual variations of a product as well.

I think the SEO URL feature would be nice to be customized across variations rather than using GET variables. In fact, if you can do it with getting variables, then rewriting based on the URL to the variation wouldn't be a huge jump in logic... I understand what the Imac was saying (initially) in that wouldn't it make sense to have separate products if you want separate URLs, but after thinking about it more, I think it would be beneficial for tracking sales and analytics etc to have this feature.

You may also want to go to the level of having an option on product variations that turns off product options (for use in templates) so that options could be hidden on these specialised variation SEO URLs, so they really look like standalone products to the user. Because I don't know what behaviour you would expect if you went to a variation SEO URL and then tweaked the product options to some other variation - it could become confusing for the user in this case... But I guess that starts falling into each stores descisions on user experience.

Please keep us updated on when this will be released. Last I saw was July 2017 - if thats the case then I will hold off reorganising our products, but if it's going to be another year, then I might think otherwise..

Good stuff - lets keep more useful features like this rolling. While I have also felt the brunt of several CS-CART hiccups in the past, I do find it easy to customise and would like it to continue... Lets all pray for the CS-CART dev team to create a product that blows everyone else away and makes me look smart to my boss for suggesting we use it! ;)

I'm very interested on this feature.

Have you any news about data release?

Are there plans to make filters and search module work with Product Variations like they work with simple products?

Hi, guys!

Product Variations is a great feature!

But your Filters isn`t working with Product Variations. I think it is important if you have some different size or colors.

Are you going to do the Filters? Is it possible?

When i edit old Product to Convert configirable Product Front end dont Show Product why ?

Some Problems About Addon

1-> When u convert old product to configurable product and added product variations block and category listing pages doesnt show the productç

2-> First time adding product for configurable product and adding product variations. category listing and block show the products.

but when u add to product extra images again same category listings and block doesnt show the product.

3-> product detail show first variation image as main image. its must be show when selected variations.

category listing and blocks must be show main product image and extra images.

Can anyone please confirm if the new variations and inventory will works with filters? As a clothing store, I would like to be able to add "filter by size" and only show products with the size variant in stock.

Hi, yes we have this feature in plans. But no ETA.

if you need it right now you can use an add-on from the marketpalce developed by our partners.

Some Problems About Addon

2-> First time adding product for configurable product and adding product variations. category listing and block show the products.

3-> product detail show first variation image as main image. its must be show when selected variations.

category listing and blocks must be show main product image and extra images.

3. At categories pages and detailed product page you actually see the first variation. This is logical from my point of view.

Can you give a link to you store or just explain what type of products do you sell and why would you like to see configurable product image instead of first variation.

Some extra questions:

Could you please answer them and make clear the whole situation:
- can variations be listed in categories pages as separate products and be filtered there?
- how can we import new products&variations? there are Variation codes for T-shirt variations in export file, but how to create variations by import?

1. No variations can not be listed as separate products because this is not what variations aimed to do. To disaplay simple products with ability to filter by them you need simple products.

2. Take a look at this article http://docs.cs-cart.com/4.7.x/user_guide/manage_products/import_export/variation_import.html

Currently I have a product such as a t-shirt with 3 colors (blue, red, green), and 5 sizes.

The picture is the same for all the different sizes, however I have to upload the same image 5 times.

For example, I have to upload the same image for blue shirt 5 times for size S, M, L, XL, and XXL

And then I have to do the same for colors Red and Green.

Is there not a better way to handle this without having to upload the same image multiple times which takes up valuable space and time?

Hi.
Sorting problem.
Version 4.7.2 (or 451 - also a problem exists).
It does not matter what is included, the variations of the products or combinations of options.
As you know, if a site has an exchange with 1C, and if the goods have several offers, then the basic price of the commodity = 0 and prices are recorded in the option.
That as a result we receive.

Sort by price, cheap first.
The first item is listed, but the option price is 1500. And the base price is = 0.
Accordingly, sorting by price turns out to work only at the base price.

Hello,

It makes a lot of sense to view variations in the category as well as most of the time the product image is only one color (and there is no proper way to indicate that it is available in a different color). Because of this reason a lot of people have created the same product in different colors (as there was no good alternative), therfore it would be a good idea to add support for 'merging' products into a configureable product so these people do have the ability to enjoy the perks of using this solution (no need for editing the same description 5 times as you only have 1 description).

Kind regards,

Just don't upload the images for variations and you main product images will be used.

Yes. All filtering, sorting and other products operations are done based on the parent product properties.

For now the solutions is to set the same price for main product as for first variation.

Thank you,

We are thinking about the same. Not sure that there will be merge, probably admin should still fill in all the fields, but it will do the trick and filters and SEO names will work.
