Installing V3 in a testing enviroment?

We are currently running a live 2.2.5 site… What is the best way to install V3 on the server in order to start testing and setting up…? Should it just be installed into a folder or a sub domain.? How do you stop search engines from indexing it.?? Just wanted to know everyones opinions to make it smooth as possible when we switch…

If you want to install your test site on a live server (which has always been my preference as well), then you can either install into a subdirectory, or install into the root of a spare domain if you have one setup on the same server. Then, just password protect the directory where you have your test site installed so it is not viewable by the public, nor search engines.

Never thought about using a spare domain… Will that still be easy to migrate over to the live domain… ???

Yes, you will most likely be using the “Store Import Tool” addon within your 3.0.5 store to migrate your existing store data into your 3.0.5 store, so make sure your test site 3.0.5 version is installed on the same server (regardless of if you create a subdomain, or new different testing domain).

Btw, “Hunt Like a Girl”, gotta love it!
